V. Hurt returned Tuesday from a business' trip to Portland. E. R. Buker went to South Beach the 8th to furnish music for the dance at Doty's Em is past mas ter when it comes to dance music. Mis3 Marie Nyhus returned from the Valley the 9th. Walt Hosford has bought a ranch peer Stayton end left for that place vsith his family Monday. Er. C. E. Linton has bought the Olmsted tract just est of Mill slough. "H.H. Sax ton andd family left last week for Portland. Mr. Sax ton has sold his business here to Cass Wolf and Lee Johnson, who will continue to run an up to date billiard and card room. The Condor and Patsy came in (he eighth. The Patsy remained tutil Monday. James K. Berry is paying this end of the county a visit after an absence of a year. Will Hosfrrd and J. H Olmsted have a contract to clear an acre of ground near the high school for Walt Hosford. Waliport voters will be called upon to vote for or against extend ing the town limits on April 10th The financial report of the Port of Alsea published last week looks good to the average voter. The administration of the affairs of the port has been conservative and businessike throughout and all ex pense thus far has been to the mutual advantage of all interested in any way in navigation. Wald port gets a little extra advertise ment on the tax receipts where the Port of "Waldport" appears. Kernville. Mrs. Bessie Farrin made a quick trip to Sheridan and back. She had been suffering with the toothache and went to have some dental work done. Jess-; Farrin had the misfortune to lose a fine horse and colt. Mrs Butterfield, two grandchild ren and son, Luman, have been at Mr. Stone's since the 13th of Feb ruary and have all been sick with the scarletina. Ihe last report Mrs. Stone was real sick with scarletina. Mrs. Parmele and son Edgar went to Newport .last Sunday at five p. m. As they were going down the Otter Rock hill they met Mr. West of Salmon river. He had lost his hat. watch, and a six-shooter, was as wet as he could be and said he had been in the ocean and did not know how he ever got out. He had left Newport at nine Sunday morning. The Parmele boys hauled lumber to the Resche school house last week. Mr. Bethers, County School Super visor was visiting the schools in our part of the county last week. Captain Davies ran his boat in over the bar last Saturday bringing in a billiard table and bowling alley for William Dodson. They ran their Bchooner out the same night. Deputy Sheriff Chambers was doing business in our parts. Otis Harry Thorp and family passed through on their way home from the Valley Miss Nellie Nixon called cn Mrs. C. S. Parmele last Thursday Lilborn Harding is again in our midst. Clarence Parmele and family were visiting at the bay last week. Ben Selling of Portland, who is running for Senator, says he is in favor of religious liberty, lhat is good. He surely knows how our forefathers fought and died for liberty. We hope he receives all Republican votes in the county. We heard Mr. West went to New port last week to join the Odd Fel lows lodge. By the looks of things when he came back, he rode the goat all right. Will Muir has returned home from Southern Oregon. Alvin Thorp is hauling freight from Taf t. Mr. Bethers has been visiting our schools in these parts.- The school house in Dist. 54 is being repaired and an addition built on, which when completed will improve conditions consider able. ' u Ona Plowing and Spring work has commenced on North Beaver. The pleasant weather makes us feel in dustrious. Mr Johnson and family who have been living on the Yerix place near Seal Rocks passed through Ona on Monday. D. W. Hewett and family moved to West Yaquina Monday. A. H. Phelps John Coovert and Lloyd Commons hauling their household goods for them. Everyone in our neighborhood is suffering with colds. A party of. young people from Ona made a pleasure trip to the beach and Seal Rocks Sunday. Evelyn Gatens has been staying with her brother Frances, on their home place the past week. Miss Beem of Tidewater has also been visiting with them. A dance was given at the Grange Hall on March 2d. A large crowd gathered, some , from. ' Oysteiwill'j , others from Bay View. J. A. Coovert and S. A. Holm green have gone to Toledo to at tend the cuunty convention of the grange. J. W. Weidman of Wald port passed through on his way to the convention also, taking dinner at J. A. Cooverts' Monday. Mrs. A. H. Phelps spent the day at the home of Mrs. L. M. Com mons Monday. P. B. Gallegher, who has been visiting with his brother, Andrew, has gone. We did not learn his , destination. Miss Pearl Gates bought four Jersey calves of A. H. Phelps and shipped them to her father near Corvallis. Grandpa Smith was buried at the Fern Ridge Cemetery last Sunday by th? side of his daughter, Mrs. W. Satterlee. A large crowd at tended. Eddyville. J. J. Gatens of Newprort was in Eddyville Wednesday. Edw. D. Mauch went to Corvallis Thursday returning Friday. S. T. Hanson and family went to Portland Tuesday. County School Supervisor Bethers is in these parts this week. E. D. Mauch received a car load of feed and flour Monday. . Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Porter of Nortons attended the Eddyville grange Saturday. R. W Veit and family 'departed for Portland Monday where they will make their future home. Miss Alma Bowerman of Hi 11s boro took charge of the Eddyville school Monday for a three months' term. Mrs. I. J. Pepin of Chitwood came to Eddyville to visit her mother Mrs. F. Eddy. Mrs. J. Parks of Beaver creek spent Sunday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Willoughhy. Irven Magce of Newport spent a couple of days of last week looking after his farm on Little Elk. The goat raisers of this vicinity will meet Saturday the 16th for the purpose of electing officers and ar range a selling date for their an nual sale of mohair. , Two land deals have been made here the last week both with Port land men. R. W. Veit traded his farm of over two hundred acres to Mr. Colyer for property in Port land.; This place is known as the Eddy place an lies at old Eddyville. S. L. Hanson traded his ten acre tract one-half mile north of Eddy ville for Portland property. Both deaU seemed to be an even ex change of land and no price was given. . COMMISSIONERS'COURT. The bid of Elwyn Young being the lowest bid for doing clearing on right of way on Big Creek road for $224 was accepted and contract ordered to comply with specifica tions. Resignation of FA Godwin as Justice of the Peace for Nashville precinct having been filed, same was accepted; and it is ordered that J II Lewi3 be appointed Justice of the Peace of Nashville precinct to succeed F A. Godwin, Esq., re signed, upon his entering into bonds and taking oath of office, as re quired by law. It is further ordered that Lincoln County Leader, Newport Signal and Yaquina Bay News be each allowed $2U per year for publishing pro ceedings of County Commissioners as furnished by the County Clerk.
