coma. While returning to his home on
Salmon river from Newpor last
Sunday morning, James West came
near losing his life by drowning in
attempting to pass around a point I
on the beach at Schooner point, a!
mile north of Cape Foulweather. j
it was nign tide when . Mr. West
reached the point and in attempting
to "make a run for it" between
breakers was caught by a huge
breaker and swept from his horse.
He lost his gun, some money and
provisions, but was fortunate in
escaping with his life.
The schooner Nenamosha went to
Siletz bay, returning Saturday.
