The commercial organizations of Newport and the Willamette Valley towns are making an attempt to have the big fleet of warships stop off the mouth of Yaquina for two hours, as they pass up the coast. An invitation has already been sent and received by the fleet, and it docs not seem improbable the re quest will be granted. This would give the people of Oregon an oppor tunity to see the big scrappers.' Several vessels would be in from Columbia River to take the people out to welcome the fleet. Communicated. Eddyville, Or., April 20, 1908. Editor Leader: If you will al low me space in the Leader I wish to 'say a few words, as the report came from Toledo that if Jay Dunn was elected Sheriff I would be his deputy. Every word of this is false Who ever started this must have been dreaming or had the night maie, as I haven't seen Jay Dunn nor spoken to him for over a year. I did not know that he was going to try for Sheriff until be was up here on his canvass and then I was away from home and did not see him. Besides I am not looking for any deputyship or appointments, either. If I want an office I will let the voters of Lincoln county say whether I shall have it or not. As to Jay Dunn so far as I know he will make a good Sheriff. And as to Jim Ross, I ran against him two different times for the office of Sheriff, although he defeated me 1 y a small majority I have no personal foeling against him. He is a jolly good fellow, and I expect to support him in the June election. As I registered Republican I expect to bo loyal to the ticket. There has been much comment on my regsitering republican, and that I am faking. I wish to say that I was raised a Democrat and used to think that all Republicans belonged to or stood in with the trusts, but of late years I have been studying the issues and have been a Roosevelt man ever since he has been President. I think the Re publican platform is all right and to the bjst interests of the people if the right man is at the wheel. ' They sny a smart man will change his mind, but a fool never does. R. N. "One Touch of Nature Makes the Whole World Kin." When a rooster Hints a bis fat worm be cnlls nil the hens in the farm yard to come and share it. A similar, trait of human nature is to be observed wben a mail discovers something ex ceptionally good he wants all his friends and neighbors to share the benefits of his discovery. This is the touch of nature that makes the whole world kin. This explains why people who have been cured by Chamberlain's Cough Remedy writes letters to the manufacturers for publication, that titers pimilarly ailing may alpo use it and obtain relief. Behind every one of t hese letters is a warm hearted wish of the writer to be of use to someone else,' This remedy is for sale bv Otto 0. Krogstad. NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION. U. S.
