We recently read a horrible story of a nice young girl who thoughtless ly jerked her head back suddenly to avoid being kissed and broke her neck This should be a terrible warning to other pretty girls not to jerk back. Minutes of the last regular and adjourned sessions read and ap proved. Street Committee reported having drawn up plans and specifications for the repairs ordered to City wharf, and bids advertised for. The following claims allowed:" E. L. On motion bid of McCaulou & Hoeflein for repairing City wharf in the sum of $80, it being the lowest bid, be accepted, they to furnish all hardware and material required. On motion Marshal instructed to notify all parties having lumber, wood and othes.. material on City wharf to have same removed forth with in order to enable the contrac tors to perform the necessary re pairs. On motion Marshal instructed to replace cleats on gang plank to City float. On motion matter of planking or corduroying balance of Hill and Seventh street to intersection of county road be referred to Street Committee. Shinar, A. Rigeaski, and A. Wis niewsksi arc all called to Toledo this week on account of the home stead trouble of Matt Sijota. School opened at Ocean View Monday with Mrs. G. M. Bones as teacher. There will bo an Easter program delivered at the Ocean View school house, or what was known as the Chatterton school, on Sunday, April 19, at 2 p. m.. Everybody is cordially invited to attend these exercises. J. W. Bones of Taft has gone to Portland to purchase another boat load of supplies. Frank Bones has gone to Mc- Minnville to look after his farm and Btock at that place. Fred Stanton returned home from a trip to Portland Friday evening. K. C-. Egbert came over from Siletz Sunday evening going on to Portland Monday morning. The Twenty-Third Annual con vention of the State Sunday School Association will be held at Forest Grove April 27, 28 and 29. Easter exercises will le held at the Methodist church next Sunday morning by the Sunday School children, every body invited. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Taylor left Monday morning for Cottage Grove where Mrs. Taylor will reside while Mr. Taylor makes a trip to Cali fornia , Assessor Walter Ball is in Kern ville this week looking after his farm, doing assessing and perhaps working some in the interest of his candidacy for the nomination of Assessor. Those in attendance at the Parents' and Teachers' meeting, held at Newport last Saturday, from Toledo, were Miss Fleming, Miss Harrison, Prof. Wilson, Prof. Woods, Superintendent Bethers and G. B. McCluskey. They report a very pleasant time. A crowd of Indians from the Siletz, and Dr. F. M. Carter, of Toledo, were in this city this after - noon on their way to Portland to appear in the famous Logan mur der trial, in the U. S. court, one that has attracted a gwd deal of at tention in Lincoln county with sev eral tragic chapters in the story. Albany Democrat. Law and Order League. A number of the citizens of Toledo met at the City Hall last Saturday evening for the purpose of organiz ing a Law and Order League. C. B. Taft is in Lincoln county, at the mouth of the Siletz river; wheie it empties into the Pacific ocean. We have lots of good land here which can le Ixirght from $l to $12 per acre, I was a Portl u d barber and came to this section five years ago and today I own some f the best land here. There is lols of room here for men who will work and they can't help but get ahead Taft has three stores, one fis'i cannery and a sawmill, and will continue to grow Iiecause of the country around it. A few home steads can be had yet, but they are pretty far hack and the. best arc taken. Those who like to hunt and fish will find an abundance of ; atne and fish. Lincoln County Fair. Died at Euclid, Oregon, on Fri day, April 10, Mr. J. II. Smith. Mr. Smith was lwrn in Pennsyl vania. He removed from New berg Oregon to Euclid, three years ago. He leaves a young wife who is the both of his legs below the knees. He died from his injuries thirty-six hours after the accident In a rail road accident ten years ago he had both legs broken below the knees. Socialist County Ticket.
