McBride at Oregon City. R. P. Goin of Waldport who is a candidate for the office of County School Superintendent, was a Toledo visitor last Friday. Richard Christiansen left Tuesday morning lor Loos Hay. lie goes there to become a member of the Coos Bay Life Saving Station. Mrs. JH. Ross returned frcjn Harrisburg Saturday evening where she had been with her daughter Grace who was sick but is reported better. Bee Derrick returned Wednesday evening from Southern Oregon where he has been for the past four months for his health, but he says there is no place like Lincoln county. The following citizens of Kcrnville were Toledo visitors this week G. S. Parmele, Mike, Albert, John, Joe and Matt Sijota, Bruno Knolinski, Lawrence Shinar, A. Wisniewski and Nick Stemple. .. Wm. Keady of Waldport was a Toledo visitor the first of the week working in the interest of his candi dacy'; for County Commissioner He went from Toledo on up in the east end of the county and will re turn to Waldport the last of the week. Brother Matthews of the Newport News, and Owen Graves of the Bon Ton talke 1 to each other by hand last Friday, and it seems that Matthews came out second be3t in the argument. Graves was tried in the Justice Court Tuesday and was fined five dollars and costs. The country above Elk City in the Big Elk valley seems to have taken on renewed life and activity. Several new settlers have come into that region and a general awakening has been had. Many pieces' of land have changed hands during the past six months, and new settlers are still coming in. . Among the re cent newcomers located in that beautiful valley, are Mr. Godley, lo cated near the old Sala'dopostoflice, Mr, Smith, on the old Graves' place; Mr. Laws,-Mr. Strafer, Mr. Kimball and Mr. Woodford. . This new .blood, with the progressive settlers already there, is giving new life to the Big Elk Valley. A local telephone line, connected at Elk City with the Lincoln County Tele phone line, has about ten patrons, wth'.rnore getting ready to join.
