The regular annual meeting of the Coqullle Valley Fruit Growers association will bo held in Myrtle Point the first Wednesday In Jan uary, which this year falls on the Cth. At that time a new board of directors and new set of officers are to be chosen. The united Interest of members of tho association lnJth!a, meeting will contribute Immensely toward making the association the success that It should be. Tho or ganization Is new and not a great deal of apparent good has been ac complished, except to Instill a now interest in tho fruit possibilities of this portion of the stato. Orion Johnson, Jr., who was ar rested on complaint of Ora Marsters on tho chargo of killing a dog be-: longing to tho latter, and was bound over to the circuit court, was not ' brought to trial, the caso having ' been thrown out of court. R. E. Shine, manager of tho South ern Oregon Company of Empire, was In Myrtle Point Wednesday to look ' after the remodeling of the build;-'' Ing belonging to that company at the cornor of Spruco and Fifth streets for postofflco purposes. Tho plans contemplate a new front with a corner entrance, a skylight over tho private apartments of tho office. A side entranco is to be opened to ward the back of tho building for ' receiving tho malls and other changes are to bo made to adapt It' to postofflco requirements. ' Sam Samuels, who with his wife, r had been in Myrtlo Point for several months, died in a hospital at San1" Francisco November 28th. His mind ' wm shattered as a result of his ex ' perlences In tho earthquake. The good roads movement is evl- ' dently taking hold In Douglas county as appears from tho county court re- ' cqrds. It Is shown that of tho 65 almost half of them, have presented resolutions to the court preparatory- to voting a special tax for road pur poses. In 1907, only four districts presented such resolutions, and 1906 " there were but five that took the necessary steps for road Improve ment. The evidence is that tho era of bad roads in Douglas county la drawing to a close. Coos county, it Is believed, will meet her neighbor hotter than half way in road lmpro- voment. NEWS OF COQUILLE.
