the Coqullle Valley Fruit Growers
association will bo held in Myrtle
Point the first Wednesday In Jan
uary, which this year falls on the
Cth. At that time a new board of
directors and new set of officers are
to be chosen. The united Interest
of members of tho association lnJth!a,
meeting will contribute Immensely
toward making the association the
success that It should be. Tho or
ganization Is new and not a great
deal of apparent good has been ac
complished, except to Instill a now
interest in tho fruit possibilities of
this portion of the stato.
Orion Johnson, Jr., who was ar
rested on complaint of Ora Marsters

longing to tho latter, and was bound

after the remodeling of the build;-''
Ing belonging to that company at
the cornor of Spruco and Fifth
streets for postofflco purposes. Tho
plans contemplate a new front with
a corner entrance, a skylight over
tho private apartments of tho office.
A side entranco is to be opened to
ward the back of tho building for '
receiving tho malls and other
changes are to bo made to adapt It'
to postofflco requirements. '
Sam Samuels, who with his wife, r
had been in Myrtlo Point for several
months, died in a hospital at San1"
Francisco November 28th. His mind '
wm shattered as a result of his ex '
perlences In tho earthquake.
The good roads movement is evl- '
dently taking hold In Douglas county
as appears from tho county court re- '
cqrds. It Is shown that of tho 65
almost half of them, have presented
resolutions to the court preparatory-
to voting a special tax for road pur
poses. In 1907, only four districts
presented such resolutions, and 1906 "
there were but five that took the
necessary steps for road Improve
ment. The evidence is that tho era
of bad roads in Douglas county la
drawing to a close. Coos county, it
Is believed, will meet her neighbor
hotter than half way in road lmpro-
voment.
