Explaining his bill Increasing the salaries of the preslQont and vice president. PORTLAND, Or., Dec. 19. The The men who have been arrested in connection with tho numerous hold ups of saloons and other robberies give their names as Oscar Johnson, Harry Benson and Chris. Bees. They claim to be Norwegians. They will be taken before the train crew of the O. R & N. train which was robbed Thursday night for possible Identlfl catlon In connection with that crime. Wife of Well-Known Business Man Dies After A Long Illness. Mrs. Charles Hall, wife of Charles Hall, of the Sanitary Meat Market, died this afternoon at 3 o'clock at her home in Ferndale. She has suf feredfrom cancer for some time past and for several days her death has been expected. Mrs. Hall was aged 33 years, 9 months, 9 days. She was a daughter of Joseph Richards. She Is sur vived by the following brothers and Bi&tors; Mrs. H. L. Williams, of San Jose, Calif.. Mrs. Harry Graves, and William, George and John Richards, all of Marshfleld. C HALL PASSES AWAY WOMAN GETS FOLL LIMIT Mrs. Martin Sentenced For Life, Faints And Cannot Be Ttevived. (From Tuesday's Dally.) OAKLAND, 'Cal., Dec. 19. Mrs. Isabella J. Martin, convicted of con spiracy In dynamiting the homo of Judge Ogden In this city, was sen tenced today to life Imprisonment. Except for 'a 'flush of her face, Mrs. Martin -made no demonstration of any sort. After brief proceedings, Judge Wells declined the request of 'Mrs. Martin to meet him in chambers and she must be removed to the county Jail. Every effort was made "for a delay of judgment and to ob tain a new trial. The plea of in sanity wadset aside by Judge Wells who said he had no doubt of her sanity. Immediately after being taken to Jail, Mrs. Martin collapsed. She grew worse until she was in a dead faint. At one o'clock,, the attend ants at the jail had worked over her more than an hour but she still ifaileU to irecover. To Assist Beautiful America Club In North Bend Clean Up Day. North Bend Is lo have a general cleaning up of the trash of the city before Christmas and tho improve ment is due .to the efforts of the Beautiful America Club. The ladles of the club decided to "have a "clean I up day" Monday, and they have taken a novel way of getting the jwork done. Announcement was made In the school that a prize would be offered for the pupils who gathered together the greatest amount of old tin cans and other garbage, and in this way it is hoped to induce each' pupil to do some vigorous cleaning. A wagon will be sent around and the garbage taken up and it will bo decided which one has gathered to gether the greatest amount of trash, and Is entitled to the prize. STRIKE IS GENERAL . Window GInss Workers Quit Throughout tho Country. (By Associated Press.) CLEVELAND, O., Dec. 19. Ad vices received at the headquartersa of the National Window Glass Workers indicate that the members of the organization quit work generally throughout the country this morning in order to enforce the adoption of the new scale which carries an in crease of practically 25 per cent, A number of plants have signed the new scale. A meeting of the manu facturers of Columbus, O., will be held next Tuesday to take action relative to the new scale. WOULD PENSION TEAMSTERS. IUU Introduced to IKlp One Class of Moican AVnr Veterans. (By Associated Press.) WASHINGTON, D. C, Dec. 19. Representative Alexander, of Mis souri, Introduced a bill providing ponsions for teamsters employed as such during the war with Mexico. Tne government has heretofore re fused to tyrant pensions to the teamsters,. PUPILS WILL RELP II WORK Baxter Fined $250 For Letting Rose and Associates Have Whiskey. 'For selling to minors whiskey which caused I' o of them to go to the penitentiary, Oeorge Baxter, the keeper of a l.ccl and a bar room at Coquille, was lined $250 and costs. Rose, Williams and Klnnlcut were found to have been drunk when .they assaulted the Myrtle Point girl and it was further brought out In the trial that the whiskey was purchased from Baxter's place. This matter was brought to the notice of the grand jury and an indictment was returned against Baxter. He plead ed guilty before Judge Hamilton In the circuit court and was fined $250 and costs. Two' Sentenced. Rose who was found guilty by a Jury and Williams who pleaded guilty, were both sentenced yester day by Judge Hamilton. Rose goes I to the penitentiary for three years and Williams for two years. She riff Gage will take them to Salem in a few days. Two Acquitted. The grand jury discharged Samuel Hunter of Bandon after Investigat ing the charge against him. It was alleged that Hunter stabbed a man named Lyon. Both are old men. After the evidence was heard It was decided that it was not sufficient to convict. The grand jury also discharged "Nels Olson who was one of the men ! mixed up in a fight at Ten Mils, ! when some shooting took place. The evidence was not sufficient to war rant, an Indictment being returned. Four Indictments were returned by the grand jury but the arrests have not yet been made. Court Adjourns. The business of court was con cluded more quickly than was expect ed and yesterday Judge Hamilton ad journed for the term. The judge and District Attorney Brown return ed to Roseburg today by way of tho Myrtle Point route. - GOES TO BOISE. Central FiRuro In Murder Trial Will Join Her Husband. ' Hy A'doelnteri Press.) Insurgents against tho present rules of the house are leaving Washington for their homes Juiblant over tho progress they liave made stirring up an insurrection in" tho Republican ranks. They assert the rules should bo amended before the end of the session. It is acknowledged by somo of the leaders of the insurgents that the only hope of amending the rules lies in the action of the minority. Some will have trees and presents and others will give entertainments, but tho young peoplo who attend the Sunday schools will be assured of some festivities and the usual treat expected at this season of tho year. At the Swedish Lutheran church there will bo a tree at tho church building at 7:30 4 o'clock Christmas night. The children will take part in a program and there will bo an early service at C p. m. for the grown peo ple of the church. The children of St. Monica's Cath olic church will meet at the new store building in South Marshfleld Christmas atternoon and receive presents and a treat from a tree which will be arranged there. The "Marshfleld Baptist church is arranging and especially elaborate program and entertainment for the children. It will bo held Christmas Eve'ta tho church. There will be two trees and a chimney down which Santa will come with his presents. At North Ileiul. The United Brethren church of North Bend will entertain the child ren on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. There will be a tree and program. . Christmas night the Sunday School of the North Bend Methodist church will meet at the church and hold an entertainment. Tho exercises at the North Bend Presbyterian church will bo held-on Christmas Eve. Make An Attack While They Are Being Searched In Jail Cell. (B7 Associated Press.) HIGBUO, Mo., Dec. 19. Frank Cain, the city marshal, was shot and probably fatally wounded, and Elmer Magruder was Instantly killed In tho city Jail by three'men whom Cain ar rested for robbing a railway station at Salisbury. The men 'gave tho names of Fred Anderson and James and Bud Drenor of DcsMolnea, Iowa. Cain and Magruder had gone into the cell to search the men, when they opened Are. Tho Breakwater made an early start for Portland yesterday leaving Marshfleld shortly after 7 o'clock in tho morning. There were fifty-five passengers aboard and a big lot of freight.
