Donald Charleston, the government engineer in charge of the dredgo Oregon now operating on the Bay, was born and raised In Coos county. For years, he was located at Bandon. Since en tering the government service, he has been stationed away from here. Citizens League Tonight. Joe Gil bert, one of tho best known and most highly respected pioneers of Empire, Is reported critically 111. He is about seventy years old and owing to his age, little hope is entertained for his recovery. He is veteran and while in the service contracted ailments that have been bothering him In re cent years. He is a bachelor and has no near relatives near but tho scores of friends he has made In his forty years residence are giving him every care possible. Six years will bring tho end of wheat ex portation from Puget Sound and other Pacific Coast ports, according to a prediction mado hero by James J. Hill, chairman of tho board of directors of tho Great Northern Rail road. Tho noted magnate asserted that within six years tho consumption of wheat by tho United States will be so great that It will not more than equal, If It will equal homo produc tion.
