Government Will Put In New Station at Cape Near Coos Bay Entrance. After months of futile ' appeal, the wish of the navigators entering Coos Bay is to be shortly gratified by the government putting In a new fog-signal station at Cape Arago. rne macmnery ana equipment ar-, rived yesterday on the Allance from Portland and was preceded by A. L. j Withers, a government engineer, who I will have charge of the installation, j Mr. Withers is now at Empire. For several years, there has been ' much complaint about the Cape Ara go fog-signal, the old fog-horn not being sufficiently powerful to pene trate the dense fogs for a sufficient distance to enable captains to get I their bearings. In fact, the claim i is made by some of the captains that I they could run up against the station in fogs when the horn Is supposed to be blowing with all its might and j not hear the slightest semblance of a signal. The new signal is one of the mo.' powerful and modern ones and will be of great benefit to the Coos Bay entrance. The different fog signal stations have different signals so that the mariners can get their bearing? as they near the various ones, the different whistles enabling them to distinguish each one from the others Captain Amundson, in charge of the local station, is delighted over the prospective change as the old fog-horn has been a source of ar much grief to him as to the marinert sailing this coast. That the govern ment is also paying more heed to the navigators of the Oregon coast is alsr gratifying to all Interests In Coof Bay.
