He hopes to be able to leave for Marshfield In a few days. In case he Is able to start for home soon, his relatives here will not make the trip to Spokane as was contem plated. Howard In Chnrge. Chas. A. Howard has been selected by the Second Southern Oregon District Fair management to arrange with manufacturers and others for ex hibits during the exposition here In August. Tho headquarters of the ex hibit department will be In the office of Sec. G. W. Carleton In the First Trust and Savings Bank building. Baptists Sunday School Picnic. The Sunday school of the First Bap tist church has arranged for tho an nual picnic to be held at Charleston Bay next Friday. A large number of boats have been chartered to car ry the picnickers down and bring them home in the evening. Most of the boats will leave at 7:30 Friday morning but one will remain until S:30 for the belated ones. Each will bo expected to provide his own eatables. At Old Home. The Dally Ledger of New Albany, Ind., says: "Judge C. A. Sehlbrede, of Marshfield, Ore., who when a young man was ongaged In the practice of law In this city, and for several weeks has been vis iting relatives In Floyd and Clark counties, will return next week to his home. MISS HELEN CHANDLER and her friend, Miss Helen Doble, who will spend several weeks on Coos Bay, a to expected to reach Marshfield Friday. AL. WATERMAN, a well-known traveling man, is expected here In a day or two for a short visit with friends. He may return to this territory. E. D. McKEE is expected this even ing or tomorrow from an extended vacation trip to central Oregon points and Portland. RAY HAINES of Myrtle Point, who is endeavoring to secure a scholar ship given by the Oregon Journal, Is calling on his friends on Coos Bay to help him securo It. T. V. CARNEY who has been on Coos Bay for several weeks In the in terests of the Falrbanks-Morso Company, has been called to his home In Portland by sickness In his family. MRS. J. T. McCORMAC and son, Fred, who are visiting In Portland and other northern points, have written that they will probably not return to Marshfield until tho first of next week. MRS. J. D. HAWES, tho daughter of Mrs. M. R. Smith, arrived from Chico, Cal., on the Roseburg stago this morning. Mrs. Hawes will make quite a visit with relatives on Coos Bay this summer. J. M. BLAKE and wife, who have been spending the past month with relatives In Spokane, Wash., and other northern points, have writ ten frlonds that they expect to leave for Marshfield about July 29th. E. K. JONES returned last evening from a business trip to San Fran cisco and Portland. Tho day be fore yesterday he encountered a torrid heat In northern Oregon, the thermometer registering 102. When E. K. struck tho cool breezes as he approached Coos Bay, he was about the happiest man immagln able. F. M. STEWART has returned from a week's business trip to Bandon and tho Coqullle valley. Tho wind and fog made it rather disagree able at Bandon during the last few days. He says that Bandon Is enjoying a wonderful growth, some of the business men there claiming that the town has doubled almost within tho p?st year. "DOC" LOWE and his brother, Y. M. LOWE, of Bandon, are Coos Bay visitors today. They belong to the original advance guard of tho "old timers" brigade being resi dents of this section for fifty years. It Is ten years since Mr. Lowe vis ited Marshfield and he expresses himself with great surprise at tho development and Improvements" made.
