Mrs. Gettins is the daugh ter of Judge and Mrs. C. A. Shel brede. ' Buys Barber Shop. T. J. Lynch has purchased the interest of his partner L. E. Edwards in their Front street barber shop and is now sole proprietor. T. J. Is as expert on "Chin Music" as the Orchestra. New Phone Line. Manager L. R. Robertson of the Pacific States Tele phone Company, announced today that the phone line of South Bay, two miles below Sunset Bay, from North Bend, will be completed and ready for operation by next Tues day. Work For Dredge. Secretary Walter Lyon reports that fairly good progress is being made on the can vass for funds to secure the govern ment dredge for Coos Bay. He be lieves that the chances are still good If local people or companies will quickly provide the necessary funds. It will be decided within a few days. New Myrtle Point Agent. A. A. Carper, who has acted as ticket agent at the Southern Pacific depot for the past few months, has been transferred to Myrtle Point where he has been appointed agent for the Wells, Fargo Express Company as well as ticket agent for the Marsh field, Myrtle Point railroad. He left Sunday morning accompanied by his wife. Lewis Takes Office. T. J. Lewis, the newly elected coroner of' Coos county, yesterday assumed the duties of his offico, Dr. E. Mlngus, the retir ing official turning over all of the office supplies to him. Mr. Lewis is one of the best known men in Marsh field and his many friends are certain that the duties of the office will be just as capably administered by him as by the official whom he succeeds. Dr. Golden Coining. Dr. R. E. Golden of North Yakima, Wash., a son of Prof. F. A. Golden of Marsh field, has written that he will leave North Yakima about July 15 th to come to Coos Bay to locate for the practice of his profeslon. He will bo associated with Dr. J. T. McCor mac here. Dr. Golden is well-known on Coos Bay although he never prac ticed hero. He has been very suc cessful at North Yakima but is desir ous of locating on Coos Bay. Former Teacher Weds. Announ cements have Just been received hero of the marriage of A. J. Friday and Miss Ellen N. Beamls at Eugene, Oregon, June 27. Miss Beamis will be remembered as a former teacher in the eighth grade of the Marsh field schools, a position she held for several years prior to her departure from Coos Bay about four years ago. Her homo has been at Forest Grove, Oregon, whoro she had a ranch. Her husband is a rancher, living throe miles from Banks and about fourteen miles from Forest Grovo. Gospel .McctiiigH. Cox (Billy in railroad circles) has return ed from Myrtle Creek, Southern Ore gon, where he had been called by the serious illness of his aged father who, however, he left with return ing health. Billy took passage to his home here from Roseburg over the Old Coos Bay wagon road, uncom plaining and peaceably as to accom modations, but much enjoying the scenic mountainous panorama, with Mt. Hood in the far distance. De scending Into Brewster Valley with his soul filled with the recent gran deur of the hills, he was disturbed in the Cnlabraba Valley by a lot of highwaymen, whoso names he has handed over to the authorities, viz. George Ferrey, Ed Lawrence and Mike and James Boone. "Billy" brought home as a peace offering 125 speckled high latitude beauties. (No affidavit.) HOUSEWORJH is expect ed home Sunday or Monday from Portland where he has been 'the past ten days on business. JOHN B. FRY, a VeUred banker and capitalist of Grants Pass, is In Marshfield looking over the Coos Bay country with a view of invest ing here. MISS MARY MURPHY has gone to Myrtle Point to aid Miss Eva Laird in the operation of the Pacific States Telephone Company's ex change there. MISSES AGNES HUTCHESON and Evelyn Anderson are spending a few days with Mrs. A. J. French at the McCormac bungalow on South Coos River. C. B. McCLURE of Drain, arrived on Coos Bay yesterday on business. He says that thero are no signs of immediate activity in the construc tion of the railroad to Coos Bay.
