Engine Succeeds Oxen. W. D. Mathows hns given up tho ox teams that have been used for years by him in his logging camp at Eastsldo, an engine being secured by him a few days ago to handle the work. Excursion to Bnndoii. Prepara tions are being made to run an ex cursion from Coos Bay to Bandon Sunday, April 25th. It is expected that a large number will go from here. A baseball game is likely to bo one of the attractions. Recovers from Operation. Nols Burgham of tho life saving station at Gardiner, who recently underwent an operation for appendicitis at the General hospital Is reported rapidly improving. Ho will soon bo able to return home. Nairn Smith in Today. Tho Nann Smith reached Coos Bay from San Pedro and San Francisco today. She brought a Shea locomotive for the Smith-Powers Logging Company. She will load immediately with lum ber for the south. Eureka Out Today. Tho steam ship Eureka sailed to'lcy for Eu reka, cutting out tho trip to Port land as a result of tho delay occa sioned by encountering tho sand spit. She is now on her regular schedule and will reach here Satur day en route to Portland. Will Move Here S. Jones of Michigan but lately of San Jose, Cal., Is in Marshfield making arrange ments for a now residence to be built in South Marshfield. When his noino is completed Mr. Jones will send for his family, which is now at San Francisco, Change Light Rules. Inspectors Edwards and Fuller havo been ad vised that a now rule requires gaso line launches to carry red, white and green lights, tho samo as steam ves sels instead of merely having com bination lights.
