A- THE DAILY COOS BAY TIMES, MARSHFIELD, OREGON, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 1908. ranaapwrw CITY'S DEBT NEBRASKA GUTS Sherwin-Williams :" The OW EXPRESS RATES PAINT -w ww iwmiMwiiwaiwo i Current Expenses $400 a Month More than Income Front St. Fund Mixup. Through an error sometime ago, the city paid out over $1,900 from Its general funds to wipe out the cost of improving north Front street. At tho time, City Treasurer Hall mis understood the situation and paid the Inst warrant of the contractor for Front street work, amounting to something like $2,500, believing that thero was sufficient money in tho special fund created to defray the expenses of the work to cover it. Later he found that there was only about $C00 in the Front street fund so that he had to make up tho other $1,900 from other city funds. It is likely that tho city council will en deavor to have this amount met by collecting another special levy against the benefitted property. W. F. Squire, the expert now go ing over the city's affairs, has made a special report on the treasurer's office showing the financial condition of the municipality. According to his report, the current expenses of the city for tho next few months, ex cluding special or extraordinary ex penses, will exceed tho income at the rate of about $400 per month. On this account, it is proposed to have the treasurer "stand off" some of the warrants and hold the funds on hand to meet tho salary warrants of city officials and workmen. The following figures are taken from Mr. Squlro's report: Cash on hand, April 1, 1908 $1,173.SG Warrants called, not pres ented $4C8.80 Interest on above. 71. 0G 539. ROSEUURG, Ore., April 15. This city has been overrun lately, partly by regular tramps, partly by work lngmen out of employment. Tho Southern Pacific Company has added empty freight and passenger cars to its regular freight trains in order to movo these gentry where resumption of railroad work in the Northwest Is taking place. Recently some 200 of these men formed themselves in regular order and marched to tho residence of Mayor E. V. Hoover. There they re quested that their wants be provided for. Mayor Hoover, after Inspecting them, readily granted their request and they were divided into squads and in charge of officers were taken to tho different restaurants and fed. They will bo sent north. The Strongest Feature of the Machine Is the simplicity and durability of the shuttle driv ing mechanism. The bobbin and bobbin case can be very readily removed and replaced in a few moments, The shuttle also is easily removed, simply by pressing on a latch. You don't have to use a screwdriver, as is necessary with all other rotary machines. FEED Large double feed of same width on both sides, causing the goods -to feed through without guidance, sewing over seams with ease. The feed motion is positive, no springs being used. THE THREAD PULL OFF, located directly under the feed and above the shuttle race cap, takes the proper amount of thread off the bobbin for each stitch, and thereby allows the use of a strong ten sion on both upper and lower thread, producing a very uniform stitch, and sewing with a long or short stitch on thick or thin goods without adjustment of tensions. The thread pull off also comes one side of the needle at the time that the loop is made and prevents it from forming on the wrong side of the needle, thus avoiding the skipping of stitches. SPEED By reason of the Rotary principles and ball bearing features embodied in this machine it is capable of running at a very high rate of speed, making over five stitches to one movement of the foot, The machine has bushings or compensating bear ings at the top and bottom of needle bar on upper and lower shaft, and in nearly all places where the parts are subject to wear, BOBBIN The machine has a very large bobbin, and the lower or bobbin- tension can be adjusted without removing same from the machine. BALL BEARINGS It is fitted with ball bearings in stand wheel hub and treadle, assuring lighter run ning and minimum friction. "" STITCH REGULATOR It can be changed with out loosening or tightening of a thumb screw, and the same length of stitch can always be duplicated without experimental trials, by referring to the num ber on the stitch indicator plate, THREADING Simplicity in threading is unequal ed by any machine, and we call attention to the fact that with neither the upper nor lower thread is there any hole to thread through, excepting the eye of the needle, AUTOMATIC TENSION RELEASER By means of it all tension is taken off the upper thread when the lifter is raised, and the work can be taken out without breaking the thread or springing the needle, and without pulling the thread down by hand, THE PATENT TENSION INDICATOR shows the tension at a glance, It can be loosened or tightened instantly by turning dial pointer up or down a labor saving device that will be appreciated on sight, DUST CAPS on needle and presser bars are or namental, but they are practical as well and prevent the ingress of dust, hence less friction, smoother working and longer wear, CHAIN STITCH We supply our Family Rotary machine with a chain stitch device whereby either lock or chain stitching may be done at will of operator, This is included only where ordered and at a small extra cost, With many Rotary and Round Bobbin machines extreme care must be used in starting a seam so as to prevent clogging and snarling of the thread, In our Family Rotary this has been overcome by a New and very Important Improvement, our Thread Cast Off, or Anti-Clogging Device, which absolutely prevents the wrapping of thread on the shuttle driver, It's another positive evidence of White superiority, Going-.
