As a consequence tho Rplo hero are entitled to believe , they have tho most favored sec of favored Oregon in a climatic , sagely and aptly remarks tho rtle Point Enterprise. 'MB COXSIDEH TII1H t takes all kinds of people to ko this old world fit to live In. a good thing if our brains (if we o any) differ as much as our faces If we thought alike we should (want the same things, and if we Iced alike wo would not know our n wives, and wo would kill each ler until tho last man was gone j there would bo nobody but linen left left to perpetuate the p. But wo shall not finish this Jin of thought, but shall leave It those of our readers who aro more- thly imaginative than we aro. We xted out to say, that the subscrlb- ( to a newspaper represent all .ds and classes of people, with all ds of beliefs, from the extremes of rythlng that suit all minds' from fool to tho philosopher. Editors usually men of education and ought, and trained In their pro 3slon by long experience. If wide rake, and they generally are, they ment upon live events on tho spur i, tho moment, and often find that J .L source of their information was 3 though tholr comments wero nest, says tho Port Orford Tribune. u, perhaps would have commented erently, nnd perhaps you get iffed" at tho editor, without stop B to think that you aro different rsons, and don't look nliko, and nco can't think alike. There aro ten more than two sides to a ques- ock sure" of their opinions where olars halt, and tho fool Is always o surest man on all questions. Ask on to be honest, but don't auk all bollevo as you do. A NEW TAX RULING. More Sheriff's Sales for Delin quent Taxes on Property Hereafter. Tho county court of Coos county tho last regular meeting decided follow tho new law regarding tho Hlectlon of delinquent taxes on real roporty, and not advertlso tho samo pr sale, but to issuo certificate of olinquoncy on delinquent property. 'ho following from tho Portland Tol prnm gives tho method of procedure nd tho gist of tho law: 1 Sale of property by tho sheriff for ollnquont taxes is a thing of tho jaBt. Properly on which taxes for 90C aro unpaid will not bo sold by ho sheriff at public auction this year b has been tho custom for past years. Jho amendments to tho tax law mado V tho last legislature abolished tax ales, and tho decision of tho Mult (bmnh county court not to advertlso ho delinquent tux list saved this roporty from being sold under tho lammor this year. Instead of tax snlos a now systom ps been adopted which tho sheriff's oputles In tho tax department do llar Is much nioro offeetlro In brlng- hg about the payment of delinquent ales. The practice now Is lo Issuo ccrtlfl- .atos of delinquency on delinquent roporty. Whon tho taxes on tiny Icco of proporty httvo not boon paid tho owner, they may bo paid by o first person who applies, and to lm Is glvon tho certificate of do nquoncy. This certificate may bo . redeemed at any time within threo years by tho owner of the property. Interest at the rato of 15 per cent must be paid by tho owner to tho holder of the certificate of delin- I queiicy before he is permitted to re deem. Under the old law tho high est rate of interest that could be charged was 10 per cent. At the expiration of three years, the holder of the certificate secures a deed through decree of the circuit court and tho owner must appeal within thirty days from the date of the decree or he cannot appeal. The' effect of the new law is believed to be that the purchaser of a tax secures1 a title that cannot be annulled. As the law now stands, delinquent tax sales by the sheriff are abolished, tho rate of interest is increased from 10 to 15 per cent, and the holder of the tax deed is made secure in his title by the decree of the circuit court. Large numbers of certificates of delinquency have already been is sued by Sheriff Steven's deputies, tho proved attractive to tho purchasers of tax deeds. People who have heretofore been negligent of their delinquent taxes, feeling sure that tho tax deed could ' be set aside at any timp, are now rapidly paying up their delinquent taxes, because the new law gives the holder of the tax deed what is regard ed as a perfect title, and after tho decree of the circuit court has been entered, there can be no redemption, except by appeal to the supreme court. (Written for Tho Times by Captain T. J. Mcgenn.) A soldier bold was waiting, Waiting for the call, Ready to go to battle, Ready to storm the wall. Willing to die for his country, And the red, white and blue, But ere he left his lady love Ho asked her if she'd bo true. At last the bugle sounded The signal for tho fight; Ho drew his sword and spurred his steed, And charged with all his might. Into tho thick of the battle Amidst tho shot and shell, Fighting like a lion, This gallant soldier fell. Fell in the ranks of honor With the bold and true, But ere he died he murmured, "Will you to me be true?" His lady walked in the garden, And lingered near the gate, An aide-de-camp" came flying With a message of love or fate. He handed her a letter, She read It through and through, It was his last words dying "Will you to me be true?" She dressed herself in sable, And rode off to the field,- She found him gashed and gory, But heard he did not yield. She clasped her arms around him, As the sun set in tho west, And ere tho morning dawned on the battle field, She was dead upon his breast.
