On an unlucky day for him be got into an argument with the saw and came out of ine contuct minus an arm. He was car ried across the street to the home of the late W. C. Woodcock and placed upon the dinine taole where Dr.SharnlMi M. of Eugene, proceeded to Jressthe injured arm. In due time the wound healed np and the victim of the accident drifted over into Alsea where betxntinues a re spected and nsefnl citinn. Ti. outlived its original owner and fell en heirloom to hie sou Verne Woodcock. ; and is today none the worse for the wear after its fifty years of service. Times. The Frcit Crop. There is a big di versity of opinion as to the coming frnit croo. The preient warm rains will most surely be sufficient to ensure a bountiful croo throughout the Willamette valley. The 'rest at no time ti e past week has been sufficiently severe to damage fruitor berries, and the latemsf s of the present forebodes the im probability of any damage being done bv com rains, to the berries and Iruit. In our immediate vicinage, every available man and team is brought into active ser vice, and the acreage, in this neighbor hood, son to grain, has never been greater. This is well; for it the home consumption be somewhat greater than common, the surplus will likewise be in creased, and thus prove the mors reraun eiative, while at the same time we bless others as well as benefit ourselves.
