The news was told Thursday afternoon at a tea given by Miss Gretchen Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Smith. The bride-elect attended Portland academy, Lincoln h'gh school, Boston, and Mrs: Newton Carson Smith and Mrs; John Hunt Itendnckson have issued cards for l tea for Miss Mary Wferrack, May 5. , The hours will be 4 to 6 o'clock and the scene of the festivity will be 333 North Twenty ninth street. The marriage will be in June. - Mr. Cobb is the son of Mr. and Mrs. .James Forrest Cobb of Berkeley. He is a graduate of the University of Cali fornia and is popular among the fra ternity men of the university. He is interested In busness in Portland. Mr. Cobb served during the war in the air service. The couple will make this city their home. The plans for the wedding have not been com pleted. As the bride-elect is a favorite socially -there probably will be sev eral affairs in her honor. At the tea Thursday Mrs. George Lawrence. Mrs. Wilson Coffey. Mrs. Dale Hinkle and Miss Nancy Holt presided at the table. Mlss Consuelo McMillan and Mis Ann Shepard assisted. Spring flowers adorned the table and draw ing room. The Arts and Crafts tea last Mon day was a social event of note and the exhibition of work of members attracted a throng of visitors all week at the museum. The hostesses for the week were Mrs. W. A. About 40 society women were there for bridge and luncheon,' The dinner dance' last Saturday was attended by about 165 persons. .- Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kerr have returned from California. Mr. 'and Mrs. Charles F. Adams went to California for a visit some time ago. Cbolldge is also the head of the "Senate ladles," a sort of club formed of the wives of senators or eX-senatos, which was formed during the war . for war work and which continues on as a social club. The women meet every Tuesday morning and sew for the poor and needv and have a picnic luncheon together at the senate office building.
