One of the recent parties from other beaches to arrive at Bayocean for a days tramp to the lighthouse and caves were Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Lewis and children. Ruth and Maxwell, Mrs. J. F. McNary. Miss Erma G. Ewart and the Misses Elizabeth and Gertrude Steele. The party are all Portland people who are spending the sumner at Twin Kocks. Members of the Bar View summer colony who spent the past week at this resort were Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Pardey and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Shana han. all of Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Thien of Waluga, Or. Mrs. It. K. Nichols of Portland ar rived ' at Hotel Bayocean last week for a short omting. Sheltered for the coming week in Morningskle cottage are Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Tschien of Portland. During the next ten days Palouse cottage will be occupied by Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Craven of Dallas. A. D. Sullivan of Vancouver, Wash., will shortly make his summer quar ters In Sea Gull cottage. Captain Louis E. DeRock of the steamer Dorothy May took a large crowd of Bayocean vacationists on an excursion to Tillamook . City, Thursday. The picturesque scenery along the winding banks of the chan nel connecting the bay with Tilla mook harbor was - a much enjoyed feature of the outing. Theadora Budwin of Spokane will spend the coming month at Hotel Hayocean. Four Leaf Clover cottage will be occupied during a short vacation by K. Brown and son of Portland. A very enjoyable dance was held Saturday evening In the parlors of tha. Hotel Bayocean, when its man ager, C. C. Kepple, entertained a large number of visitors at this resort. Allman, and sister. Mrs. J. G. Burness, all of Albany. HUCKLEBERRY SEASON OPENS Berrying- Parties Xunierous During vVeek at Manzanita Beach. MANZANITA, Or., July 31. (Spe- ial.) Huckleberry season, always nticipated with pleasure by the va cationists at this resort, is now at and. The red huckleberry, which with its luscious coral fruits among lacey green foliage is one of the most eautiful as well as delicious fruits of he Oregon woods, is ripening in pro- usion among the denser timber of the hills around Nehalem, and the lue huckleberry, less common, but by most people considered more de- lcious even than the red, is obtain able in considerable quantities. Later in the season there will be an abund ance of s-hot huckleberries on the idges and dunes,- and along the shores of the Nehalem river and bay. Berrying parties have been numer ous at Manzanita during the past week, championship picking honors having been conceded to Mrs. George Smith of Salem, Miss Beth Shank and F. F. Townsend of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Bell and children, Jack and Dorrit Bell, of Portland are taking a short outing at the Lane cot tage. The party made the hike last week-end to Short Sand beach. Forest Grove people who are spend ing the remainder of July at this re sort are Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Rock' wood and daughter. Miss Mary Rock wood. Portland people who were regis tered at Lane's hotel during last week were Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Ormondy Miss Addie Bauer and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. O'Brien. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. The second community bonfire of the present season was held Thursday nig'ht of last week, when the vaca tionists at this resort made merry around three huge bonfires on the beach. The weather at this beach dur InK the last week has been ideal. Warm, sunny days and calm moon light nights were enjoyed by the trjrong of mid-summer vacationists who have been arriving by train and by machine over the Seaside and Sher idan roads. The daily crowds of bathers have been the largest of the present season and all have reported that the surf has been many degrees warmer than before this summer. The Misses Margaret and Catherine Kressman of Portland were hostesses Friday at a party in the Kressman summer home. Guests of the occasion were the Misses Grace Gardner, Irma Henika, Frances Strange, Laura Halle, Dorothy Cram. Muriel Stout, Harriet Little and Ruth Ellison. H. A. Brock of the Balfour, Guthrie company, Portland, arrived Saturday with a jolly party of Portlanders to spend a week at Camp Tak-It-Eiy. OCEAN" PARK HAS BOXFIRES Bcacli Party Is Given In Honor of Sliss Dorothy Xeal. OCEAN PARK, Wash.. July 31. (Special.) Several big bonfires have been the main features of the week at Ocean Park. One of these beach parties was given by Miss Dorothy Neal in honor of Miss Frances Spauld ing. who is visiting at the summer home of Judge L. B. Stearns. About 20 young folk joined in the festivi ties. Miss Gertrude Holmes has opened her cottage for the season and h -a as guests Mrs. C. H. Dalrymple and son. Mrs. Paula Rasmussen and Miss Elna Rasmussen . are at the Curran camp. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Carnahan are paying their annual visit to Ocean Park and will probably remain through the month of August. Mrs. M. DeValanche and her father and mother. Mr. and Mrs. D. Furnish, are domiciled at "The Locusts." Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Twitt have re turned to their home in Vancouver. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Prince and daughter and Mrs. C H. Himes came early in the week to be in the Himes house. Dr. A, E. King returned to Port land after visiting friends at Ocean Park. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Schmeer were among the week s arrivals. The Weston cottage has been taken this month by Mrs. A. Barbour. Dr. Susie Standard of Huntington brought Joe and May Standard to the beach to occupy "The Wreckage." With them was Miss Mary Louise Warner of Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shaeffer re turned to Vancouver Wednesday after visiting Mr. and Mrs. Donald McMaster. x. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Sbumwy are passing . their vacation here. Mr. Shumway is city superintendent of schools in Vancouver. Rev. Alexander Maclean and wife have joined the cottagers at Ocean Park. Rev. Boudinot Seeley is scheduled to arrive here to join his family for the month of August. Mrs. Roy Hesseltine and Marjorie Hesseltine of Vancouver are here at the Clark cottage. After re freshments, the floors were cleared, and the rest of the evening was spent in dancing.
