WWERS, Chairman Decorated Automobile and Vehicle Parade. THE whole world knows the Port land rose, and on Thursday, June 10. we shall give the world an oppor tunity to see the Portland rose in all its splendor and coloring, prepared in a myriad of designs and given expres sion through the annual decorated au tomobile parade. This year the lead ing clubwomen of the city will perform miracles in executing designs of both artistic and bizarre effects. No im agination oan picture the detail of the many magnificent schemes which have been presented for approval, and the varieties of roses which lend them selves for decorative purposes give promise of ample abundance. If the applications for space in the parade now on file should not be increased the number at present Is greater than ever before and each day finds, new ones coming in. The floral parade is the one Festival feature that has placed Portland on the map not only at home but abroad, and has been the pattern from which all other cities have attempted to se cure attention in producing pageantry effects. This year through the splen did co-operation of many varied Inter ests in connection with nearly all past exhibitors in the floral parade, we feel confident of giving our visitors a glimpse of the fairyland- dreams of our childhood. We hope every citizen and all organizations who have automobiles and roses will assist through taking part in this parade as a civic duty, fur upon the success of this display de pends the report that will be carried away as to our ability to express all the meaning of our 1916 slogan: "The Whole World Knows the Portland Rose." CARROLk Chairman FestivalCanter Committee. THE symbol of the Rose Festival Is the Portland rose.' About It clus ters the poetry, theeentlment, t local pride and patriotism which the Festi val is Intended formally to express and celebrate. Here the rose has reached Its perfection and here it is produced in more bewildering profusion than elsewhere on top of earth. The rose is the outward expression, the formal proof of a soil amazingly fertile, a climate bland and beneficent and a balanced and happy combination of natural conditions that nowhere else in tue temperate zone can be found In the same degree and In equal perfec tion. In seven years the Rose Festival has grown from a mere celebration into an institution- of worldwida repute and at least National consequence. Its deep er signitlcance has entered into the hearts and minds of the people of Ore gon. In no year has the spectacular features of the Festival been given such close, careful and painstaking at tertion. The carnival spirit will have a free rein, for the accumulating ex perience of past Festivals has taught valuable lessons. But more than ever Military and Industrial Pag eant Promises Much.
