Page 12 iri?t ^orttani» (Observer O ctober 19, 2011 [MtLIAISHtM Exploring the Body and Brain All-new Body Worlds exhibition at OMSI OMSI w/7/ host the exhibit, Body Worlds and The Brain, opening Thursday, Oct. 20 The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry an nounces its newest featured exhibition, Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS and Hie Brain, opening to the public on Thursday, Oct. 20 for a limited engagement. The show deciphers the mystery and complexity of the human body and brain with more than 200 authen tic human specimens— including entire bodies, indi vidual organs, and transparent body slices— preserved through Plastination, Dr. von Hagens' revolutionary preservation method. The exhibition highlights the neuroscience research on brain development, performance, disease, and dis orders. OMSI hosted the Pacific Northwest debut of Body Worlds in 2007. The exhibition made history at the museum with a total of nearly 400,000 visitors during its four-month run. Special prices for advance purchase tickets through Oct. 19 are $ 12 for children, $ 16 for students & seniors and $ 19 for adults. FrightTown -- Three most horrifying haunted houses return to Memorial Coliseum for some Halloween horror this weekend. FrightTown plays Wednesday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 16, Oct. 19-23 and Oct. 25 through Halloween on Oct. 31. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door. Halloween Bash - Hie Star Theater, downtown, hosts a Halloween paro on Monday, Oct. 31 with electric rock, hip- hop and rap. Artist Janet Julian will help craft a variety of different trick or treat bags for the little ones. A costume parade will kick off the trick-or-treat adventure with over 100 vendors participating. Spooktacular C oncert--The University ol Portland Wind Symphony and Orchestra will perform a “Halloween Spooktacular" at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Buckley Center Auditorium, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. The concert is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in costume and bring the family for Halloween surprises.
