Panthers Launch ‘Burn Baby Burn’ Hot Sauce (AP) — F orm er Black Panthers in O akland, C alif, are hoping the phrase "B um Baby B um " will help their nonprofit organization market a new product — hot sauce. The Huey P. N ew ton F ounda tion, nam ed for the co-founder o f the 1960s m ilitant group, is seeking to tradem ark the phrase that for many brings to m ind the racially charged 1965 W atts Riots in Los Angeles that left more than 30 people dead, at least 1,000 w ounded and hundreds o f buildings in ashes. The new line of hot sauce, called “Bum Baby Bum: A Taste o f the Sixties Revolutionary Hot Sauce," is aimed at “anyone who wants to have an extra savory boost to their food," said David Hilliard, executive direc tor and original Black Panther. The foundation also plans to produce its ow n salsa, as w ell as a clothing line called “Spirit o f the Sixties.” H illiard said the group hopes to start selling the spicy condim ent later this year to com m em orate the 4(Xh anniversary o f the 1966 found ing o f the Black Panther Party.
