The donation was m ade last week on Tom Joyner M orning Show. A reunion celebra tion for families with children born prematurely and cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit at Provi dence St. Vincent Hospital draws Barbara Stone and her daughter, Amber (from left), along with Barb Ratio. Almost 700 people attended a ‘preem ie’ reunion for all ba bies who were cared for in the Providence St. Vincent Neona tal Intensive Care Unit. The recent event enabled par ents to meet other parents and share advice and stories about raising these special babies. It also allowed hospital staff to re unite with some of the children they have cared for and see their development. The event is free and open to the public. The health fair is an all out effort to close the health gap on a variety o f diseases that plague the African American community. African Americans are 30 percent more likely to die o f heart disease and 40 percent more likely to die o f stroke than whites.
