The posh Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was the site o f event USA Today has called the event "the place to be” the night before the Grammy Awards. This year was cer tainly no different. The guest list included many Grammy nominee artists, producers, songwriters, lead ing industry executives, music and film legends. The “hottest ticket in Town” was attended by, Whitney Houston, The Queen o f Soul Aretha fran k lin . Baby face, Sean "Puffy” Combs, T- Boz and "Left Eye" Lisa Lopez (TLC), Tony Rich, Martha Stewart, Sarah McLachlan, Quincy Jones, Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), faith Evans, forrest Whittaker (Director o f Waiting To Exhale), SWV. Joan Osbome, Antonio"L.A." Reid, song- When Ken Block, lead vocalist and acoustic guitartist for Sister Hazel, was looking to put together a band, he posted a flyer incorporat ing these adjectives: creative, posi tive, insightful, energetic. Four years later, the G ainesville. Clive Davis has stated that "this is the one time of year at an event where all o f the artists and label that has the energy and power to make people move, think and feel," says Block. "Our music bridges the gap between lovers of cerebral con cepts and people who norm ally w ouldn’t go beyond the hook o f a song. We find the common ground that brings the two together.” Sister Hazel takes their name from a black female minister who has run a Gainesville, FL rescue mission since the early '70s.
