Clive Davis’ Annual Pre-Grammy Bash
A W ho’s Who o f the music and
entertainment industry celebrated
late into the evening, at the Arista
Records' Pre-Grammy Party Clive
Davis, President and founder o f
Arista, was the host ot the annual
affair that has earned the reputation
as The party aro u n d G ram m y
Awards time. The posh Plaza Hotel
in Manhattan was the site o f event
USA Today has called the event
"the place to be” the night before the
Grammy Awards. This year was cer
tainly no different. The guest list
included many Grammy nominee
artists, producers, songwriters, lead
ing industry executives, music and
film legends.
The “hottest ticket in Town” was
attended by, Whitney Houston, The
Queen o f Soul Aretha fran k lin .

(TLC), Tony Rich, Martha Stewart,
Sarah McLachlan, Quincy Jones,

and acoustic guitartist for Sister
Hazel, was looking to put together a
band, he posted a flyer incorporat
ing these adjectives: creative, posi
tive, insightful, energetic. Four years
later, the G ainesville. FL-based
group is composed of five musicians
who fit together perfectly and lend
their individual creativity to shape
the sound that is uniquely Sister

Clive Davis has stated that "this
is the one time of year at an event
where all o f the artists and label
that has the energy and power to
make people move, think and feel,"
says Block. "Our music bridges the
gap between lovers of cerebral con
cepts and people who norm ally
w ouldn’t go beyond the hook o f a
song. We find the common ground
that brings the two together.”
Sister Hazel takes their name from
a black female minister who has run
a Gainesville, FL rescue mission
since the early '70s. "When we were

and a four course dinner which was
served to the 600 plus guests, the
evening was capped off with an ar

upcoming artists, superstars and in
dustry veterans.

"wearin" o f the green” was over for
this year, the Irish Rovers come
along a w eek later to keep that Irish
flame alive.
And this year they’ll be doing
that in an afternoon show Sunday,
March 23, at Schnitzer Concert
