Be ginning this March, Skies America International Publishing & C om m u nications w ill launch the first mass co n s u m e r tra v e l m a g a zin e , EcoTravelcr, devoted exclusively to the fastest growing segment o f the m u llib illio n -d o lla r travel industry: ecotravel. The glossy, four-color magazine w ill begin publication w ith its M arch/ A p ril issue and move to a m onthly format beginning in 1995, according to James R. Rullo, president o f Skies America. EcoTravclcr w ill offer read ers in-depth features, columns and directories highlighting cco-scnsitivc destinations and tour operators, w rit ten by such award-winning travel re p o rte rs and w rite rs as P eter Matthiessen and Jeff Greenwald, un der the direction o f Publisher Lisa Tabb and E d itor Suzanne Kearns. “ EcoTravelcr w ill o ffe r readers a fun, creative and eco-sensitive alter native to the travel magazines cur rently available on the newsstands,” said Tabb, founder and form er pub lisher o f the San Francisco ecotravel “ zine” justG o! “ Travelers today want to experience the natural beauty o f their destination w ithout damaging its resources, and our magazine is designed to appeal to environmen ta lly conscious travelers, whether they’re planning a weekend getaway or visiting overseas.” EcoTravelcr w ill be distributed via subscriptions, newsstand sales, direct m ail and travel consumer expos, w ith an in itia l circulation o f 150,000. Newsstand price w ill be $3.95 per issue and the 12-issuc subscription price is $19.95.
