Run all the way through! D o n ’t slow down! Even if you are not first, keep running until you cross the finish line.” These w ere a few o f the instructions runners re ceived from their coach. T he coach w ould repeat these w ords over and over again until the runners could do them autom atically. W hat is your goal? D uring training, an ath lete had to keep him and herself physically and m orally fit. A sound d iet that w as high in protein, lots o f ju ices an d green vegetables cam e highly recom m ended before an enduring perform ance. I can rem em ber that m any o f the children on our team w ere from low incom e fam ilies and they d id n ’t nec essarily have all the item s that were included on the lists o f foods from w hich they w ere to choose their w in ning m cal...S o~ thcy m ade-do with w hat they had. T hese kids, the A lbina R oadrun- ners, ran w ith a purpose and a d eter m ination that none o f the o th er kids, w ith the expensive sw eat suits and the expensive track shoes, had. T h is legendary coach, P hillip W alden, had planted into their m inds, a thought that chanted, “Y ou can do it! Y o u c a n d o it! Y ou can win! N o o n e can beat you!” N o m atter how this team may have looked in their over-sized, m is m atched, too tight, basketball jerseys, faded, pygm y appearance uniform s— w hen the gun w as raised, they blew everyone o ff the track, a n d -lh e y loved a good celebration. Do you see w here 1 am going with this story? G od does not care w hat our cloth ing looks like o r how m uch they cost or w hether or n ot we have a gold card. All He w ants to know is, “ A re you available? W ill you finish the race or will you quit? W ill you go where I send you or will you fuss and kick? W ill you waste valuable tim e com plaining or will you be w illing to receive instruc tions?” In P au l’s letter to the church o f Philippi [Phillipians 3:14], h e states, “I do not m ean that I am already as God w ants m e to be. I have not yet reached that goal. B ut 1 continue try ing to reach it and to m ake it mine. C hrist w ants m e to do that. T h at is the reason C hrist m ade m e His. B rothers, 1 know that I have not yet reached that goal. B u t there is one thing I alw ays do: I forget th e things that are past (D on’t look back). I try hard as I can to reach the goal that is before me. 1 keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize.
