On Tuesday evening, Welcome Festivities will take place with our city officials and community leaders wel coming our International President and convention delegates to our city. On Wednesday evening, we will be blessed by the Annual Address of our President, Dr. Shirley Alexander Hart, of Norfolk Virginia, during the Presidents Night Program. Thursday night is the night of pure elegance and excitement, when the organization comes together in fun and fellowship during the Awards Ban quet. nations from as far as South America, Africa Caribbean Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Convention activities will include: All activities during the day hours are limited to Ministers’ wives only, with special workshops for local and guests ministers. The convention offers twenty one self-improvement courses. A Model Continuing Education Program in co operation with the Graduate School of Theology, Virginia Union University. Evening activities include: A Eu charistic Communion Service on Sun day evening, where various ministers of all denom ¡nations are eloquently dressed in their pulpit robes serving commun ion to the unified body. The Oregon State Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows The Oregon State Association of Ministers’ Wives and lylinistcrs’ Wid ows, will host the 52nd Annual Conven tion of the International Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Wid ows, Inc. June 26 - July 3, 1992, at the Red Lion Hotel, Jantzen Beach Center, Portland, Oregon. The International Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Wid ows, Inc. is a non-profit Christian orga nization, including its state and local chapters. The organization’s constitu ency exceeds 43,000, and consists of 103 denominations located in 39 stales, 16 nations and 5 of the 7 continents We are service oriented dedicated to sup porting such worthy causes as the Un i ted Negro College Fund, Sickle Cell ane mia Foundation, American Cancer So ciety, United Way, Children’s Orphan age, and Operation Smile. The purposes of this organization are to: unite ministers’ wives and min isters’ widows of various Christian de nominations into one Christian fellow ship. Sponsor an annual conference that provides information, inspiration, and problem-solving skill development. Cultigate international good will, de velop stronger interpersonal relation ships, and foster a more effective com munication network. Promote cultural exchange with ministers’ wives and widows around the world. Function as a Christian non profit corporation and implement the Christian and charitable purposes of the corporation. A Gathering of Friends & Family” “Lights, curtains, action!”, the ar tistic director, Mario DcPriesl, gave the command following a very moving prayer which preceded the very suc cessful production of the third Annual African American Festival Gospel Ju bilee held this pas Saturday evening on the magnificent stage of the Arlene Schnilzer Concert Center. What: Yes Jam “92” Gospel Music Rally W here: staged, presentation featured choirs, soloist, actors and actresses from a variety of churches and from a variety of races. This year’s theme: “The Black Family And The Black Church opened to the sound of a native Nigerian, John Uwagbae, singing the national anthem to his country, Africa, and this was followed by the singing of the Negro National Anthem which was rendered by the talented a capella voices of “His Song”. The blending of voices, instru ments, Afrikan Dancers, Afrocentric theatre, and informative narration done by Georgine Rice, were all fused to gether to bring about a most enjoyable, entertaining and inspirational evening. Waverly L. Davis, President, and Dennis Payne, Sr., Vice President, jointly open their hearts in thanking the community for their support and their attendance. “Next year, we hope to be bigger and better”, says Waverly Davis. “We need to unify the Christian communi ties throughout the Portland Metro politan area. The AAF Gospel Jubilee has become a great blessing 1 rom God.” But, an improvement on this year’s performance will be a hard task. M t . O livet P r e s e n ts Woodlawn Park N.
