Ten m in o rity students fro m c o l leges across the country were select ed fo r the pilot program which seeks to give the interns valuable insight in to the management o f quick-ser vice restaurants through on-the-job w ork experience, according to John A lfo r d , D ire c to r o f M anagem ent Resource Planning. Students recently began the pro gram w ith a week o f in tro d u c to ry store management tra in in g at the Training Center in Louisville. F o llo w in g in-store tra in in g , the interns w ill return to Louisville A u gust 23-27 where corporate officers w ill give an overview o f headquart ers operations and potential career paths with KFC. Ask H um berto Carlos — "Tito" to those w h o kn o w him The road that brought Tito into his current w ork as Business Manager for KPTV took patience and deter m ination The patience to maintain direction despite unexpected de tours. and the determ ination to gain experience wherever it could be found A boyhood in Peru changed overnight w hen Tito's parents relo cated to Chicago. The n e w lan guage, n e w customs, n e w schools — all had to be adjusted to. Tito thrived on the challenges, however, and w ith time was himself helping other students manage He also held on to a variety o f jobs during those years, but could not complete college just yet in order to w ork for the support o f the family After Arm y serv.ee, Tito returned to w ork He also entered business college W ith his diploma, and the < developed ability to w ork w ell with others, he took positions in Mexico City and Los Angeles, where his ex perience w ith television business operations began Recognizing and pursuing opportunities as they arose, Tito eventually came to the N orthw est arid KPTV Despite his professional standing, and the obligations o f providing for his o w n family now, Tito continues to pursue coursework at a Portland university. He admits that experience dictates more of the availablejobs these days But he also sees h o w necessary technical skills and know ledge continue to be. and school is still the most dependable place to acquire them Yet also for Tito, "Learning to u n derstand and listen to people is an indispensable business tool "A n d in the media, though office assign ments may be one s speciality w ork ing w ith a w ide range o f personali ties is expected G ood preparation helps in any occupation, so, "Don't limit yourself to localized expert enees — meet all sorts of individuals and groups — become more outgo mg and interested in others " W ith such exposure, every opportunity can become an advancement There are as many backgrounds as there are people, but no matter w hat your experience you can find ways to make it w ork for you To find out opportunities the television in dustry has to offer, contact KPTVs Personnel Department 1 I
