B at. anyway. Portland did have the audaatv to show up at Chicago Stadium before 22.000 screaming Bull fa«.« w earing <rf all things th eir travelling red uniforms. Not only w ere the Bulls enraged, but their fans also, as witnessed by the harsh treatm ent Portland received from both. I t was quite scary when late in the game with tempers flying and Herm Gilliam and W ilb ur Holland en gaged in fistcuffs. and 22.000 Bullish fans seemed an the verge of attacking M aurice Lucas. But things settled down and Chicago prevailed u a tough, tough game. I t should be mentioned that Portland fell victim to some sturdy officiating. Chicago woe the game, although the Blazers scored eight more field goals than the Bulls. That should tell you some thing. N ot until the final game in Portland was the foul situations even doee. Hooray"!! I predicted Portland 2-1 over Chicago: and also had Golden State winning over D e tro it. That D etro it vs. Goiden State senes was topsv tu rvv from the beginning and I must admit after D e tro it won that first game I thought Goiden State was doom ed. Robin Jones has been so dependable when called upon, and Robin certainly knows his role and plays well w ithin his ability And w hat a dutch slot he hit in the Chicago game. W ith the score see-sawing, and Blazer playoff fortunes still hanging, and Portland leading 97-92, Robin fired in a fifteen footer th at was indeed crucial. But the young man has played with poise and confidence when ever called upon and it's nice to sae thia carry through to the playoffs. D r. G and his running mate George McGinnis are the all-pro forwards, hut Fm not sure I would trade M aurice Lucas if they were both offered for him. Bill Luke means so much to the team. He's a complete team player, contribut ing in all parts of the game. One word to describe Lucas' play would be “Fan- E x Blazer forw ard Sidney W icks had an outstanding game in Boston's conquest Sunday of the Philadelphia 76’ers. Wicks led all scorers w ith 22 points. In Boston's first tw o playoff games against San Antonio Sid shot 72 % from the field. By the way it's been rumored that Greg Ballard has received four letters from interested N B A clubs. But none from Portland. Too bad Stu. you're missing another good one from Eugene. Blazers to win in.....get thia five or six. no mare. D enver is made to order far the Trailblazers. The Nuggets strong point is running and they 11 be playing into the hands of the best running team in basketball. Portlands front, w ith the second coming of Groaa, w ill be too much for Denver. And everyone knows our depth in the backcourt is superior so look for Portland in a w altz. A b o rem em ber this is playoff basketball and it w ill be exciting if not doee. Las Angeles va. The selection of Robinson marks the first tim e th a t a Black conch has served as head conch in the annual all-star classic. Last year Robinson served as an assist ant coach for the W est squad. A 36-year veteran of the coaching profession. Eddie Robinson is the fourth winningest conch in the annals of college football. H e trails only the late Pop W arn er and Amos Alonzo Stagg and present Alabam a coach Paul (Bear) Bryant in career wins. His 36-year record stands at 254-85-11. Known for his ability to produce professional football players, over 200 form er Eddie Robinson and Grambling players have played professional football in the United States and Canada. His teams at G ram bling have compiled 17 straight winning seasons. in the penalty sone, early in the second half to set up Las Vegas' first goal. G erry Ingram blasted the penalty kick past Tim ber goalie Jim Gorsek at 48:24. and from then on it was downhill all the way for Portland. The Q uicksilver’s went up 2-0 on Chris Horrocks 20 yard shot midway through the second period, and bed it late in the game when Im ir Cerick broke away from the bunch and beat Gorsek. The People at Pacific Power Portland rallied for tw o goals late in the game. Newcomers Archie Robostoff and T e rry A bock beat Vegas goalie Alan M ayer w ithin a m inute of each other to get the crowd roaring. But it wasn't to be. M ay er buckled down and thw arted the rest of th e Tim bers' attem pts and that was it. M ayer, tn fact, spent most of the night in m id-air knocking Portland shots out of harms way. But M ayer didn't get a hand an the Tim ber's tw o best first half shots. Both of those hit the post and bounced back onto the field. Two Tim bers. Hopefully when all these problems clear up and the whole machine works the goals w ill start coming.
