Forrest Jenkins said of the recent dedi cation to Dr. Martin Luther King given at Grout Elementary School by Star Pro duct ions The performance was so w ell done and emotional that there were tears in the eyes of some of the performers and audience. The basic message that the perform ance conveyed was, "Let every man be your brother " There was a feeling of brotherhood apparent during the assembly. Forrest Jenkins, president of Star Productions was the narrator and did a heart warming presentation of King's “I Have A Dream" speech. Members of the “Unity Gospel Singers,“ Gypsy Hopkins, Mary Davis, Gayle King. Brenda Phillips, and pianist Karen Phillips had the rare ability to really touch their audience's heart, while conveying pain, joy, and love in their songs. Jenkins wanted his audience to under stand: “i f we are to exist as a people, we must have the ability to communicate and reason with one another for a peaceful co existence.....We must learn at a young age that prejudice is a cancer." NAACP, will open its annual membership drive on Sunday, April 24th at 4:00 p.m. at V ancouver Avenue First Baptist Church. Dr. Wilson Record, author of many books on race relations including a historical work on the NAACP. will speak. Dr. Record is on leave from his position in the Sociology Department at Portland State University, to study the effects of Black and women's caucuses.
