Sabin School News High school gets intro Students from nearly forty metropolitan area highschools w ill be offered a four-day intro duction to the arts of commercial cookery and the opportunities of the food and hospitality industry, d irin g a unique workshop at P ort land Community College. Running fo r four consecutive Saturdays starting March 6, the 24 hour introductory course w ill teach the basics of commercial cookery, help participants to be come acquainted with kitchen hand tools and equipment, and allow each student to assist in preparing, serving and consum ing food prepared that day. Under the direction of Loyal Buroker, PCC food programs co ordinator, and instructed by chief John Sharp and W illiam P ryor, both broadly experienced in every aspect of food preparation and com mercial cooking, the high school juniors and seniors w ill thus get an opportunity to become acquainted with a career area of ten overlooked. PCC was the single Northwest College carrying out a Project FEAST food vocations workshop last summer, to train high school personnel including counselors and academic subject instructors as w ell as vocational teachers in the basic programs of food indus try c a rre r preparation. Buroker pointed out that "o u r experience with FEAST taught us how interesting and important to high school youngsters this area is— and how to organize the introductory work to achieve high interest fo r thepr.” The workshop w ill operate in the new and highly efficient com m ercial kitchens of PCC’ s Col lege Center, one of the finest installations in the Northwest.
