When the dredge Titan ends her toll this week in the slip at Municipal Dock No. 1. which extends from the harbor Una to Front street and has a least depth of IS feet, she will be prepared for another1 siege across the river, as ha is to dig iu front of Montgomery dock, where a cement-gravel formation Is said to resist the equipment of ordi nary suction diggers. There is from 20 to II feet of water available a short distance from the face of the dock, but it shoals at the harbor line. Since the Government en gineers have prepared a blueprint of a survey made recently between the Burn-eide-street bridge and the flour mill, a better idea has been gained of the amount of material that must be re moved to obtain a uniform depth of 3S feet. Tho Kinross-shire, which has been in the stream a few days, is to leave down tomorrow in tow of the Ocklabama, Central American Pilot Chart. The Hydrographic Service of the Navy Department is issuing, through its branch office In the Custom-House, the first pilot chart for the seas of Central America which has been pub lished. With the opening of the Pan ama Canal the concentration of vessel routes to this limited area demanded a more detailed description of those waters than the North Atlantic and North Pacific pilot charts show, built as they are for more exteaaive areas. She is to go out of com mission about the first of the month for her annual overhauling, and should be ready to resume operations again not later than April 1, The bar was rough again today and no windjammers were towed to sea. The delayed fleet now includes the Bel gian ship Hero, the American ship Pol talloch and the schooner W. H. Smith. The tank steamer Oleum arrived from California with fuel oil for Portland. COOS BAY, Or.. Tan. 12. (Special.) The steamship Geo. W. Elder arrived from -Portland willremain ln port over night, sailing for Eureka in the morning. The steamers Hazel Dollar and Nann Smith are barbound in the lower bay. The bar conditions promise to be worse since a sudden southeast wind has developed. Frank illjler. purser on the Geo. W. Elder, arrived here suffering intensely from kidney ailment and has been placed in Mercy Hospital, North Bend. until his recovery. TOLEDO, Or., Jan. 12. (Special.) The steamship Bandon arrived from San Francisco Friday and Is loading at the Toledo Sawmill docks. She will clear in a few days with only about half a million feet of lumber because of the rough weather at sea, . - Marine Notes. San Pedro Is the destination of tho McCormick flagship Klamath, which was cleared yesterday with a lumber cargo measuring 1.20U.000 feet. Plying between San Francisco and Ventura and other intermediate ports to the south of the Golden Gate is the steamer Daisy Mitchell, which is to be retained by the Pacific Coast Steam ship Company until a permanent suc cessor is obtained to the steamer Coos B4y. which was wrecked recently at Ventura, It was reported yesterday that the British tramp Strathgarry had been fixed to work a grain cargo here for the United Kingdom at 45 shillings. -After discharging 22.000 barrels of fuel oil and. 30,000 gallons of lubricat ing oil. the tanker Asuncion left here at 11 o'clock yesterday morning on her return to San Francisco. Mitsui & Company, who have main tained offices In the Lumber Exchange building, move this week to the Wilcox building. ROAD EXTENSION PLANNED St. Johns People to Be Asked Help Construct BouIeTard. to Property owners fti and near St, Johns are to be asked to contribute to the cost of constructing Willamette boulevard from the south end of Greely street to Delay street, one of the larg est street extension undertakings yet contemplated by the city. While prop erty owners outside Portland cannot be required to contribute to the cost, it is said that some of the St. Johns busi ness Interests will be willing to vol unteer contributions. The proposition has been put in the hands of District Engineer McMullen by City Commis sioner Dieck. The first step in the procedure will be the acquiring of property for a right of way. The cost of this will be about 220,000. Bridge Completed, Xot Opened. Repairs to, the Grand-avenue bridge over Sullivan's Gulch have been com pleted, but the bridge is not yet open to the public.
