A portable office is to be placed on the lower dock which may be moved from place to plane where It will be most needed. A corral Is also to be erected on this floor of the dock for the convenient handling of live stock that arrives on the steamers of the company. Two additional rooms are also to be add ed to the general office on the tipper dock. The company has had erected at Hood ZUver a warehouse and wharfboat for the accommodation of the shippers of that place. When the steamer Argo takes her place on the run from this port to Tillamook she will dock at Oak street and the dock agent is to represent the new boat. Duty was paid yesterday at the Cun-tom-Hou8e on 30.000 pounds of hops Imported from" German-. Willie this Is said not to be an unusual Importa tion, there Is a rather remarkable fact In the amount of duty paid compared with the price of Oregon hops. The duty was paid at the rate of 12 cents a pound, and the market price of local hops yesterday was 8 cents. It Is said by a local dealer In hops that most brewers in this country prefer Oregon hops to the foreign article, but that om other brewers are of the opinion that a certain flavor or quality is found In the foreign hops that, so far, growers in this country have been un able to produce.
