Next door, Melanie Steffl explores climate at the mouth of the Columbia River in her represen- tational landscapes. Both artists received free studios for four- month residencies as part of AVA’s artist-in-residence program. 9. Instructor Sue Garn had her 26 students artistically interpret a historical figure from the archives of the historical society of Wahkiakum County. 4 1162 Marine Drive “Chick’s Amano,” this month’s Pop-Up Show, began when owner Valarie Bit- tner started creating design elements for her own home. Inspired by items that no longer have original function, she creates new pieces that are unique for one’s home or business. 10. Astoria Underground Tours 1125 Marine Drive Astoria Underground Tours at 5, 6:30 and 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased up to an hour before the tour at oldastoria.com. Walk-ups are welcome. Arrive 10 minutes before the tour time. Plan to go beneath the streets of Astoria in a 45-minute tour with stories of history, intrigue and almost a treasure hunt as you explore and see where Astoria was built 100 years ago. Meet Guide Chad at The Pit, across the street from Sears on Marine Drive. 11. Imogen Gallery 240 11th St. Celebrate the holidays with a rich and diverse invitational exhibition exploring fiber. Included are works by Roxy Applegate, Lâm Quãng and Kestrel Gates of HiiH Lights, Julie Kern Smith, Amelia Santiago, Iris Sullivan, Gabriella Lundy, Susan Circone, Crystal and Ben Sloane of Vintage by Crystal, and Debra Carnes. 12.
