Astoria author Diana Kirk teaches “Climactic Dialogue for the Climactic Story Teller,” 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Learn how to write with dialogue to tell your story, or fold your story into an existing one. Find people’s voices — and find your own. Kirk, the author Diana of “Licking Flames: Kirk Tales of a Half-Assed Hussy” and a con- tributor to “Nasty!,” has been published in Progessive magazine, Nailed, The Psy- chology of It and has appeared on NPR. She owns the Workers Tavern in Astoria. On Sunday, Nov. 11, Scott Schaeffer teaches Ecstatic Dance, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Schaeffer, of Port- land, will facilitate this event with a brief introduction of this free-form dance. Then join in as he plays a mix of world and electronic rhythm and beats. Find the Scott joy in moving your Schaeffer body, regardless of how it looks to others. Finally, from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, learn how to make jumpsuits with Paige Common. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a basic, one-of-a-kind jumpsuit made with their own two hands. Some sewing experience is required. An artist reception will be held Saturday, Nov. 3. The show will display traditional and contempo- rary art work in fabric, felt, paper and more. Demos of various techniques will take place each day of the show. Special pop-up sales of handmade quilt and fiber items will be available for purchase every Saturday. Admission is free. ASTORIA — The documenta- ry “101 Seconds” will screen at Astoria Gateway Cinema the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 4. The film captures the debate concerning gun violence in Oregon following the Clackamas Town Center shooting in 2012. After the screening, State of Safety — a state- wide nonprofit dedicated to reducing gun violence across Oregon — will conduct a FACEBOOK.COM/STATEOFSAFETY town hall-style meeting with community members.
