2 // COASTWEEKEND.COM The stage is set for Maddox Dance Studio recitals ASTORIA — At 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, the spotlight shines on the first of three dance recitals by the students of Maddox Dance Studio at the Asto- ria High School Audito- rium. This performance will feature the stage debut of 3- and 4-year-old students, followed by advanced teens and young adults. “The Four Swans” from “Swan Lake,” music from “Harry Potter,” Disney and Broadway, will make for an entertaining, diverse dance program. The second show, be- ginning at 5:30 p.m. Satur- day, will highlight preteen through adult dancers in contemporary, hip-hop, ballet, tap and the acro- batic arts, featuring “It’s A Hard-Knock Life” from “Annie,” boogie-woogie from the swing era and “Steam Heat” from “Paja- ma Game.” The show at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17, show- cases the budding talents of the creative movement classes (ages 3 to 6) as they present their progress in ballet and tap. In addi- tion, Little Ballet Theatre dancers will appear in classical variations from “La Bayadere,” “Swan Lake,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Raymonda.” Tap, jazz, hip-hop, acrobatic arts and musical theatre numbers fill out the Sunday show, along with the introduction of the graduating seniors — Maia Mahoney of Astoria High School, and Anita Barbic of Seaside High School — along with their parents. Maddox Dance Studio faculty will host a Pink Lemonade Party at the conclusion of each perfor- mance in the High School Commons for the students and families. Students will receive their participa- tion awards, celebrating the 68th year of Maddox Dance Studio. Little Ballet Theatre, the nonprofit foundation, will host the boutique and flowers at each perfor- mance. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for seniors and students; children 12 and under get in free. Tickets are available at the door 30 minutes before each performance. The auditorium is located at 1001 W. Marine Drive. For more informa- tion, call 503-861-1971.
