JUNE 14, 2018 // 3 More room to run at 2018 Great Columbia Crossing The Great Columbia Crossing 10K run/walk is the only opportu- nity each year to cross the Astoria Bridge — the longest continuous truss bridge in North America — from Washington to Astoria while on foot. And this year, for the first time, the bridge will be closed to vehicles during the event from 8:30 to 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. The 200-foot incline takes racers up into the clouds, offering scenic views of the mouth of the Columbia River. After crossing the finish line, participants can head into the historic town of Astoria to fuel up with seaside fare and local craft brews as the morning fog starts to lift. Registration is now open for the Official USA Track & Field coast Certified Event, and will close when capacity reaches 3,500 racers. All participants will be timed via electronic chip, and competitive racers will be given a separate start time from walkers. Each year, the Crossing offers a variety of merchandise for participants to remember the ex- perience by, including this year’s long-sleeve event T-shirt featur- ing original artwork designed specifically for the event. The $40 registration includes: • Free parking with shuttle bus service to the start of the race from the Port of Astoria or the Port of Chinook • Bib number (required to board shuttle and access bridge) • Finish line bites and water • Five “Clam Bucks,” worth INSIDE THIS ISSUE weekend arts & entertainment 4 9 10 THE ARTS Astoria Music Festival Concert series combines star power, local talent $1 each, can be redeemed at participating Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce businesses from Thursday, Oct. 11, through Wednesday, Oct. 17.
