SeaPort provided air service between Astoria Regional Air- port and Portland or Newport in the spring of 2008 to 2010. The airline’s attempt to reorganize buckled this month after the airline learned it would lose a key contract and a line of credit helping keep it afl oat. An attorney for the airline’s creditors said the fl eet would be grounded. A Portland Inter- national Airport spokeswoman confi rmed SeaPort would cease operations. A spokes- woman for the airline couldn’t be immediately reached. SeaPort, which primarily operates out of its Portland and Memphis hubs, fi led for Chap- ter 11 bankruptcy protection in February. Clatsop C ounty’s season- ally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.4 percent in August, up 0.3 percent from the pre- vious month but down 0.3 percent from the year prior, according to the state Employ- ment Department. The county had the same unemployment rate as the state, and was one- half percent higher than the national rate. The county expected to lose 50 jobs in August, but ulti- mately lost 140. That left non- farm payroll employment at 17,970, 440 more than a year before, for a growth rate of 2.4 percent. In August, the private sec- tor shed 90 jobs, and the gov- ernment another 50. Food services and drinking places were the only signifi cant points of growth, adding 30 jobs. Food manufacturing trimmed 40 jobs. Accommo- dations cut 40. Local govern- ment education fell by 50 jobs over the month. Columbia County’s season- ally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.7 percent in August, up 0.3 percent from the previ- ous month but down 0.6 per- cent from the year prior. Tillamook County, mean- while, had a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in August of 5.6 percent, up 0.3 percent from the previous month but down 0.3 percent from a year prior.
