The Indians connected on 10 3-pointers to keep them- selves in the game for much of the night, but Molalla couldn’t hit the 3-pointers down the stretch, and Asto- ria hung on for a 58-50 non- league boys basketball win. With head coach Kevin *RLQ DW KRPH ZLWK WKH ÀX assistants Paul Jarrett and Pat O’Brien led the Fishermen to their ninth victory of the sea- son, equaling last year’s win total. Astoria opened with a 7-0 run against the outmatched Indians. Molalla has just one player on the roster over 6-foot-2 (6-3 sophomore Chase Jazdinski), while the )LVKHUPHQ KDYH ¿YH SOD\HUV at 6-4 or taller. So the Indians took their game outside, and connected on 4-of-11 3-pointers in the ¿UVW KDOI DQG WUDLOHG DW halftime. The Fishermen began the third quarter with an 11-1 run, capped by Justin Fruiht’s baseline drive for a three- point play that gave Astoria a 42-25 lead. But Molalla answered with a 12-2 run of its own, closing to within 44-37 early in the fourth. Jackson Arnsdorf hit a clutch 3-pointer for the Fishermen at the 3:22 mark, while the Indians connect- ed on three more 3-point shots in the closing minutes WR ¿QLVK IRU IURP WKH 3-point line. Astoria’s Derek Jarrett, Kyle Strange and Ryan Palek combined to go 6-for-6 at the IUHHWKURZ OLQH LQ WKH ¿QDO minute to help close out the win. Astoria was 16-of-24 at the line, to Molalla’s 4-for-7. Fruiht led the Fishermen with 17 points, followed by Strange with 13 and Jarrett with 12. Gulls 64, Rangers 41 SEASIDE — Seaside had WKUHH SOD\HUV LQ GRXEOH ¿J- ures, and the No. 4-ranked Gulls improved to 11-1 over- all with a 64-41 win over Es- tacada Tuesday. Warrenton outscored the Columbians 18-8 in the sec- ond period, but Rainier went on a 25-9 run in the third. Dawson Carr scored 21 points and Caymon Rea had 12 for the Columbians. Loggers 62, Lions 51 PORTLAND — The Knappa Loggers aren’t ready to give up their league title just yet, as they jumped right back in the championship race with a big road victory Tues- day, 62-51 at City Christian. “I was really impressed with our guys tonight,” Knap- pa coach Chris Spencer said. “We got ourselves in a hole early (down 16-10 after one quarter), but we dug ourselves out, and Michal Goodman had a big put-back score to put us over the top for the lead (25- 24) at halftime.” Dale Takalo scored 33 points and the Loggers closed it out at the free throw line in WKHVHFRQGKDOI¿QLVKLQJ of-28. Jewell was coming off its best game of the season, a 37- 19 loss to Perrydale Monday. Gabi Morales had eight points, six rebounds and two assists in the loss, in which the Jays trailed just 18-8 at half- time. Morales also had eight points in Tuesday’s loss, while Emma Guillen had six points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Fishermen 56, Hyaks 23 ILWACO, Wash. — Mack- enzie Kaech scored 18 points, and had plenty of support from teammates Madeline Ja- cobson and Hannah Ellsworth (14 points apiece) in a 56-23 Ilwaco win over North Beach Tuesday. The Lady Fishermen led 21-2 after one quarter, 41-5 at halftime.
