Uy decided notion of the city council Tuesday night, prohibition will continue to hold supreme sway on Jersey street, and no more saloon licenses will he issued until justified by increase In population. While it might be injustice to refuse the privilege of selling liquor to K. O. Magoou, who is conceded to be one of the cleanest, most careful and the most strict of nny whom ever sold liquor in St. Johns, yet in the interest of harmony nud peace in the community, council deemed it wisest to let well enough alone. The council of Lebanon, Oregon, played Morris Hros. n clever trick last week. This firm made a bid for sewer bonds, enclosing certified check for $3500 as n guarantee of good faith. After being awarded the bonds, Morris Hros. jiggled around for a white and finally rc ortcd that they found some irregu larities in the charter enactment, nud refused to accept the bonds. The council then dcclnrcd the 3500 guarantee money forfeited, and re advertised fur bids.
