Nominations Opened for Local 99 Leadership Positions Nominations are open for leadership positions within the Homecare Workers Local 99 (SEIU Local 503z OPEU) and will close on Thursday, February 21st, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Newly elected leaders will take office by May 1,2008 and will serve a two year term. Nomination forms can be requested from any Care Provider Organizer (See Call your Organizer on Page 6) or you can access the forms on our web site at www.seiu503.org. Duties of the elected officers are: President Presides over meetings of the Homecare Council; sets the agenda for Council meetings; chief spokesperson for the local; represents Homecare Local at national, local and coalition meetings; assists in the development of Local 99's communication system; coordinates and assists the Council Directors and Assistant Council Directors in. their functions. Vice President In the absence or upon request of the President, performs the duties of the President; replaces the President for any unexpired term of office; assists in the development of the Homecare Council's internal structure to support political action and organizing within the Local. Secretary-Treasurer Keeps records of Homecare' Council meetings; maintains financial records; disburses local funds; assists in development of’ Homecare Council to support political action and organizing. Statewide Chief Steward Recruits and develops new stewards, chairs homecare stewards' committee, tracks grievances, assists, stewards, promotes training opportunities, participates in labor/management meetings as necessary, voting member of the Homecare Council. Retiree Representative Must be a retired homecare worker who was a member in good standing of SEIU Local 503 at the time of retirement and a current member of the Local 503 Retiree Local 001. Homecare Council Directors (Two for each of the six Districts. See Homecare Council Roster for reference on what District you live or work in.) Assists members, participates, in Homecare, Council meetings (three to four times a yeahimSalem); assists in political actipnin the district and. at the State Capitol; recruits hom ecare. workers into ou ru niqn and encouragesparticipation in union activities, represents homecare workers at local district meetings. Homecare Assistant Council Directors (Two for each of the six , Districts. See HomecaHs^ Council Roster for reference ph what District you live or work in.) Assists Homecare Council Directors in carrying out their duties; at the request of the Council Director, serves in their absence; coordinates district communication; recruits new workers and encourages participation in building our local and our union. The Retiree Representative will help facilitate communication among the Homecare Council, retired homecare workers and Retiree Local 001 in efforts to engage retired homecare workers in political and legislative efforts.
