Reminder on CAPE Tax Credit & Getting Free Tax Help 2007 Don't forget when filing your Oregon State taxes that if you are a CAPE contributor, you will receive a receipt from SEIU in January showing your total contribution, which is eligible for up to a $50.00 or $100.00 tax credit depending on whether you are single or filing jointly. If you need help filing your federal and state taxes, AARP is a reliable, accurate and FREE resource. AARP has offices throughout the state and will begin providing tax services beginning in February. Call 888-AARPNOW (888-227-7669) for directions to the nearest office. k Cash Out Options and 24 Hour "Unintended Consequences 24-Hour Unintended Consequences Request Time Off Tool Cash Out Hourly homecare workers will now receive a "cash out" of all unused paid time off hours as of January 31. 24-hour workers will receive 50% cash out of their paid time off hours as of January 31 as well, with the remainder of the hours available for use. Checks will be issued the first week of February. SEIU has designed a "Request for Paid Time Off" form to assist homecare workers, consumer employers and case managers in preparing to take time off. Access this form on our web site at www.seiu503.org under the "Homecare Local" link or ask your organizer or Homecare Council representative for a copy. Our new contract requires 24-hour caregivers to take paid time off in 24 hour increments. Since it's been implemented, we have heard from 24 hour workers as well as case managers about the difficulty this language causes. Please contact your organizer or your Homecare Council representative for more information about ongoing discussions we are having with the Homecare Commission and the Department of Human Services regarding this issue.
