Reminder on CAPE Tax Credit
& Getting Free Tax Help
2007
Don't forget when filing your Oregon State taxes
that if you are a CAPE contributor, you will
receive a receipt from SEIU in January showing
your total contribution, which is eligible for up
to a $50.00 or $100.00 tax credit depending on
whether you are single or filing jointly.
If you need help filing your federal and state
taxes, AARP is a reliable, accurate and FREE
resource. AARP has offices throughout the state
and will begin providing tax services beginning
in February. Call 888-AARPNOW (888-227-7669)
for directions to the nearest office.

Cash Out
Hourly homecare workers
will now receive a "cash
out" of all unused paid time
off hours as of January 31.
24-hour workers will
receive 50% cash out of
their paid time off hours as
of January 31 as well, with
the remainder of the hours
available for use. Checks
will be issued the first week
of February.
SEIU has designed a "Request
for Paid Time Off" form to assist
homecare workers, consumer
employers and case managers
in preparing to take time off.
Access this form on our web
site at www.seiu503.org under
the "Homecare Local" link or
ask your organizer or Homecare
Council representative for a
copy.
Our new contract requires
24-hour caregivers to
take paid time off in 24
hour increments. Since
it's been implemented,
we have heard from 24
hour workers as well as
case managers about the
difficulty this language
causes. Please contact your
organizer or your Homecare
Council representative for
more information about
ongoing discussions we are
having with the Homecare
Commission and the
Department of Human
Services regarding this
issue.
