Legislative Wrap Up Throughout this legislative session, homecare members have participated in lobby efforts, rallies letter writing and phone calls to urge support for services for our clients, funding our contract and the training fund. Unfortunately, the legislature did noth ing to close loopholes, raise the corpo rate minimum tax from $10/year and make any meaningful reforms in health care. "The homecare workers were one of the shining lights of our political pro gram during a session where we had a lot of bright moments,” said Arthur Towers, SEIU Local 503 Political Director The passion and determination we demonstrated was dramatic and made it possible for us to celebrate some big victories. The threat of 'Agency with(out) Choice", which would have created less choice for our clients and more cost was "postponed". Threats to cap the number of clients enrolled in the homecare program were eliminat ed. In addition, OPI was not cut and emerged with a more stable funding source. Dental coverage for our clients was also restored Our success this session is defined by what we fought to protect, our success es in the future will depend on our ability to elect legislators who care more about real people than they do about corporate interests. To everyone who participated in our efforts this leg islative session, congratulate yourselves. You made a real difference.
