QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent oral and written communica tion skills, Proficient organization, administration, scheduling for building and personnel management and utilization. MOTIVATION AND GOALS: The desire to actively participate in the diplomatic integration of the 13,000 Home Care Workers with the affiliated union organization. Primary goals: solid growth, increased political awareness and involvement; to facilitate communication avenues that provide easy, rapid response; and motivate members to active, supportive participation. • Effectively coach shop stewards through the grievance process to identify contract violations and to handle disciplin ary issues. •Coordinated computerized phone banking. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR YOUR DISTRICT? • To have a Steward in every shop. »To have a Worksite Organizer in every worksite. • To organize a interim training for all new Stewards if elected between trainings. • To organize monthly worksite meetings for a worksites in my District. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE THE UNION WILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO RESOLVE IT? The Biggest Issue the Union will face during my term will be the 2003 contract. The Union will be addressing the rising cost of Health Care Benefits, wages, workers rights, budget cuts, and other major issues in the next Contract Bargaining. WHY ARE YOU SEEKING THIS OFFICE AND WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR SEIU LOCAL 503, OPEU DURING YOUR TERM? I am seeking this position because our district and union has reached a critical point. In the next two years important decisions will need to be made which will effect our wages and working conditions for years to come. My primary goal is to develop a structure that will involve more members in the decision making process and keep them better informed on the activities of their district and union. WHAT ARE YOlfR GOALS FOR YOUR DISTRICT? My goal for District 1 is to develop a structure to involve more members in the decision making process and political activities of our district and statewide efforts. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE THE UNION WILL EACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO RESOLVE IT? The next baigiuiuiig/conlract and the threat to our health care coverage is the single most issue facing our union* I began addressing this concern four months ago. We must begin now to prepare our members for a tough contract fight. I would raise awareness and the need for preparation now and develop a plan which would have our members informed and ready. OTHER INFORMATION TO SUPPORT YOUR CANDIDACY: I initiate a proposal and the board accepted a process for better tracing of disciplinary actions against our members on a statewide basis. I have been and remain an effective steward. I continue to promote and participate in better and increased training for all of our stewards. Formulation and implementation of a cohesive budget which provides continuity and flexability while maintaining solidarity of base and goals with legislative support and funding. OTHER INFORMATION TO SUPPORT YOUR CANDIDACY: Knowledge, experience, skills and ability over the past twenty-five years; adept, intuitive creativity; and being raised in a strong, union supportive family conjoin for a solid understanding of the organizational structure, proceedure and operation of Labor Unions with familiarity of implementation of policies, contracts, negotiation and arbitration.
