I have been involved with the HomeCare Council, have position o f Homecare Council Director for Dist. 1 participated in video and in various Rallys at the Salem Capital bldg. C.A.P.E. member, attend District Director meetings. I would like to be Assistant District Director so that I can learn about the functions of the union from the inside. I want to be part of the team, my goal is to later become a District Director so I want to learn as much as I can before I take thè position. WHAT ARE Y OUR G O ALS F O R YOUR DISTRICT? We are at a point where appx. 12,000 to 15,000 homecare workers will be joining the union and I think now is the time to put a few homecare workers on the board to help bring them in with their needs also considered. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE THE UNION WILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO RESOLVE IT? The Governors Budget cuts will be the biggest issue and how they im pact all of us. I am already attending the Forums and talking to legislature about these cuts. Representative and a D ist Rep - 1 have been a General Council Delgate for over ten years and have been a hargaining delegate for the last 5 contracts. WHY ARE YOU SEEKING THIS OFFICE AND WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR SEIU LOCAL 503, OPEU DURING YOUR TERM ? I am seeking the office as I said I am currently a Assitant District Director for Dist 2. My goals are to build a better and stronger membership in our union through out the state. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR YOUR DISTRICT? My goals for my district is to keep our current membership, and to help make it stronger and add more member, It is also important that the members are informed on activies going on with the Union and around the state - to help Educate our members. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE THE UNION W ILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO RESOLVE IT? The biggest issue is Healthcare, getting a good Healthcare plan for our members. Including Prescription drug. I am currently working on die Healthcare committee to look at what all issues there are. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR YOUR DISTRICT? Continue to work for more involvement hy our members and tap into the wide range of skills and abilities of the represented workers in District 2. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE THE UNION WILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO RESOLVE IT? The single biggest issue facing our membership is the continued skyrocketing of health care costs. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to the problem. At the statewide and national level, we need to elect leaders that are in touch with the needs of workers instead of the needs of insurance com panies and the drug industry. We must stand up in contract negotiations to protect our hard-w on victories anti to m aintain fanplnyer-paid insurance benefits* We need to look at creative . solutions such as limiting the cost of prescription drugs and examining self-insurance options for our bargaining units. In the 15 years that I have been a member, I have served as: local treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president at the Department of Agriculture; local secretary and steward at APS; bargaining delegate since 1989; a member of CAPE since 1990, and 2 1/2 terms each as Secretary-Treasurer and Chair; Labor Management Committee representative at both Agriculture and AFS; District Director for two terms in the early 1990s; a member of the Marion Polk Yamhill Central Labor Council since 1990, on the Executive Board for one term and currently serve as Treasurer. I have participated in multiple blitzes to sign up homecare workers as union members around the state. District 2 Director (current).. .Executive Board of Directors (current).. .President, Revenue Local 150 (current),. .Central Table Bargaining Team, 2001 DAS contract.. .Delegate to 2000 General Council and SEIU national convention. As a 15 year member and as an elected leader of SEIU Local 503,1 have participated in numerous worksite and statewide campaigns. I have leafleted, WHY ARE YOU SEEKING THIS OFFICE AND WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR SEIU LOCAL 503, OPEU DURING YOUR TERM ? With a new Executive Director and many new Board members, I feel the Board needs a member with a historical background. I want to build our internal strength by empowering members, while increasing our strength externally. Staff could then spend time helping build our locals instead of constantly being in recruitment mode. When the ground work has been laid from within, we won’t have to reinvent the wheel every time the next crisis comes along. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR YOUR DISTRICT?
