C . H . R . INFORMATION * NEWS The Tribe currently employees four outreach workers known to most of you as community Health Representatives. Their job is to help Tribal Members in dealing with the health care system, health needs, and any complaints dealing with health. Within the last year the CHRs have been sponsoring preventive health courses and making alot of home visits. With the help of the tribal community the CHRs could become more valuable. Whenever you have a problem or even a question concerning health feel free to contact the CHR in your area office. They are more then willing to help, however, they are basically useless unless they know the health needs of the Tribal Members. Besides sponsoring courses and dealing with complaints the CHRs may provide the following services. (1) Regular visitations to long-term hospitalized patients to provide assistance if needed. (2) Check on elderly and seriously ill Tribal Members and provide services when necessary. (3) Assist individuals in making appointments for care or treatment. (4) Visit all Tribal families and provide information on health services available within the area. (5) Help Tribal Members in acquiring emergency food, shelter and clothing. This list of activities is only a small portion of those available through the CHRs. If you need any health services please contact the CHR, she ma y be able to help you and if not she will refer you to someone who can help. Unfortunately, there are not enough tribal foster homes to accommodate the Siletz children in need. In order to increase the number of homes available the Tribe is aking all interested families to contact their CHR and put their name on a list of potential foster parents. Once you contact the CHR the Health Administrator will provide all the required information. It is very important for Indian children to be raised in a home where they can become aware of their culture rather than being raised by a non—Indian family. Please help these children without homes by becoming involved in the foster parent program. Kathy Phipps, Health Administrator
