DENTAL The Chemawa Service Unit has contracted with Oregon Dental Service so that eligible Tribal Members, living at least 25 miles away from Chemawa but within the eight county service area, may obtain routine care from a private dentist. To obtain care members should call Janet Rogers or Lorraine Hesketch at Chemawa, 1-800-452-7823. Inform them about which dentist you wish to see and they will advise the dentist as to what services are allowable. The purpose in contacting Chemawa is to assure that the dentist understands the limitations of the contract, and does not perform any services not covered. At this point in time the following services are availabe, 1. Initial and routine exams, 2. X-rays, 3. Preventive cleanings and fluoride treatments, 4. Simple fillings. However, the benefits are subject to change. If there are any changes IHS will notify the Tribal Members. Remember, all services must be pre-authorized by IHS before you can receive treatment. M E D IC A L At this time contract health services (medical services available through a private physician) are extremely limited. Only those services which are needed within 30 days or less to preserve life, limb or organ can be obtained at a hospital or doctor's office. All other services must be rendered at Chemawa. The IHS will reevaluate the monies available in June and hopefully the amount of services available will increase. This limitation, however, does not apply to dental care. There will be a notification in the Newsletter when the scope of services changes, until then stay healthy.
