The' red (sockeye or blueback), the kind (chinook or spring), the coho (silver), the pink (humpback), and the chum (keta or dog). They spend a large part of their lives in the ocean, then enter fresh to ascend streams and spawn. During their ocean life they scatter widely, feed on plankton and small fishes, and keep to cold water. The spawn ing seasons of the Pacific sal mon last generally from late summer to early winter. As the fish approach sexual maturity (pink salmon, two years; red and king salmon, four to seven years), they assemble and swarm up the rivers of their birth until they find a place to spawn. Then they pair off. Each pair builds a nest or de pression in the gravel of the stream bed and they spawn over . a period of several days. Two local boys to box in Jr. Olympics 2. Tom Strode, a former student of Mrs. Adamson, gave an organ recital at the Ann Flanagan Chap el on the Lewis and Clark campus on Tuesday evening. It was between the Hi-Spot Cafe team and Bills-Bills of Bill Fel ton’s Woodworking Shop. The Hi-Spot was the winner by the score of six to five. They tell me that Walt Pond of Bills- Bills had the honor of being the first strike out victim. Players on Bills-Bills team: Steve Brock, Clarence Iverson, Stan Zook, Gale Read - Coach, Bill Felton, Don Hines, Ron Wil liams, Walt Pond, Pat Brock, Harold Fox, Roy Hamilton, Ron Halstad. A single game Tuesday night with the Willamina Cigar Store and Scrooges of Sheridan ended with. Scrooges winning three to two. Thursday night there were two games played. The Hi Spot team beat Zimbricks by a score of 16 to 6’. This put the Hi Spot in a tie for first place. • Bills-Bills team was beaten by Littlejohns 12 to 9. Littlejohns are also tied for first place. There are games scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sun days. Come and see them. Lloyd Lewis and Elwin Little john each received a beautiful wall barometer for their many years serving on the Willamina school boards. It is believed one started a year before the other, but were on to gether for 14 consecutive years, when the boards were separate and after they were one. Their many hours of meetings and travel they spent doing their best for the betterment of our schools were well deserving of the awards. Receiving a desk set for his time spent on the board and as the outgoing member was Wes Shenk who was unable to be present.
