IHM WiLLAMINA TIMES, Willamina, Oregon, Wednesday, January 24, 1973 Baha'i faith observe World Religion Day World Religion Day, sponsored annually for the past twenty-three years by the U.S. Baha’i Com munity was observed Sunday, January 21st, in ove'r 4,800 cit ies in the United States. The purpose of this observance is to stress the knowledge of the one ness of all revealed religions and to gain recognition of re li gion as the motivating force for world unity. While men may divide'-God u- nites. Man must abandon his p re judices that divide and learn to see himself as a citizen of the world. The Baha’i Faith is' dedicated to the uniting of men everywhere. Its basic teachings include the oneness of God, the oneness of religion, and the oneness of mankind. Baha’i Com munities are established in over 333 countries and territories, and its World Center is located on Mt. Have you found real satisfying peace and purpose for living? The art of living is the least learned of all ARTS. The modern man knows everything about life except how to live it! But to know is not necessarily to know how to live. To really live is to be the possessor of an inner life that is able to meet outer life with joy and confidence. Jesus Christ claims to be that source of inner life for every; person. His claim is based upon the merits of His death on the Cross and His recurrection the third day as He said He would! If this is true-- and . all attempts to disprove it have failed-- then you and I would be wise to consider ‘the claims of this Jesus Christ’ !! The Bible says; “ Before anything else existed, Christ was with God. He has always been alive and is himself God.” Then we are told that, “ He was the true Light who came to earth to shine on everyone coming into the world...only a few would welcome and receive Him. But to all who received Him, he gave the power to become children of God. All we need to do is trust Jesus to save us” . Jesus said; “ I am the Way, the Truth, and the LIFE, NO MAN comes to the Father but by me.” God the Father said of Jesus; “ This is my beloved Son, Hear ye Him!” Yes we would do well to consider the claims of Christ. They are found in the Bible. The Bible is the greatest textbook on life, the greatest classic, the alltime bestseller...the book of books because it IS the Word of God. If you will be honest about life, and not only have knowledge but the wisdom to use knowledge to live by-you must KNOW your Bible. Most have a Bible--few have faced their need of knowing their Bible and its author per sonally. Jesus made this possible by dying on the cross for our sin. Sin is a word for saying that we have all missed the mark for our life by not receiving Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of our life. Jesus has promised personal peace within by forgiv ing our sin when we simply ask Him in faith to forgive us and to come in to our lives. The moment we do this new life begins. The source, the power, the inner strength to live with peace and purpose becomes ours thru Jesus Christ the creator of life. This is the tested, tried and proven Way to Abundant Living !! Pastor, Bob Roome, 217 D St. Willamina Bible school plans discussed Births The Rev. Man Wills and Mrs. Karl Hummel attended a meeting concerning the Released Time Bible School, held at the Luth eran Church on Wednesday, even ing Jan. 17, at 8:30 p.m. . They represented the United Methodist Church and part icipated in the discussion as to whether or not to establish a Released Time Bible School. It was finally agreed among those present that a school would be started for one day or possibly two days a week and would meet in the basement of the United Methodist Church, starting in February. Members and min isters of ■ the other churches in Willamina attended the meeting. It is planned to have Mrs. Van Loan of Sheridan do the teaching. Mr. Shenk of the Church in the Wildwood, of Grand Ronde was elected gener&l chairman. The ministers of the churches supporting the program will help coordinate the study and time to meet. Pastor and Mrs. Ken Rider of Willamina are pleased to an nounce the birth of a son, Michael Steven, born at 9:12 a.m. Jan uary 18 at McMinnville hospital. His weight at birth was 8 pounds 4 1/2 ounces. , Mrs. Geraldine Simonson of Portland, Mrs. Rider’s mother, will be staying with the family and helping out. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Fischer of Gresham, announce the birth of a son, Stephen Michael. The little fellow weighed in at 6 lbs., 11 oz. and was born on January 11. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ike Bidimin of Prineville and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fischer of Valley Junction. Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Phipps Phipps-Davis betrothed The brothers of the bridegroom and their wives. Also present at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davis, Wil lamina, and Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Davis, Vancouver, Washing ton, the brothers of the bride groom and their wives. The reception following the wed ding was held at the Rebecca Lodge in Willamina. The hos tess was Mrs. Wayne McGill of Willamina. Mrs. Louis Wade of Tacoma, Washington, aunt of the bride cut the cake and Kathy Wade also of Tacoma, cousin of the bride served the cake. Miss Brenda Williams of Lafy- ette, a cousin of the bride, took care of the guest book. Serving the punch was Mrs. Robert Ray of Davton. aunt of the bride, while Mrs. Thomas Wright of McMinnville also an aunt of the bride served coffee. Mrs. John M orris of Grand Ronde took care of the gift book. The groom is employed at Wil lamina Lumber Company. Both bride and bride groom are grad uates of Willamina High School. They will reside in McMinnville. The exchange of wedding vows between Deborah Phipps and Michael J. Davis took place on Friday, January 5 at the home of the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Phipps of Willamina. Karen is a graduate of Oregon College of Education and is teach ing in Willamina. Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Anderson of Willamina. Miss Haak will graduate from Willamina High School this June. Mr. Anderson is a 1971 gradu ate of Willamina High School. Lauding the progress that has been made by Sheridan over the last two years saying “ in the past two years Shéridan has rightfully moved to the forefront and is no longer a follower,, but a leader. Sheridan is now consulted on a county level and on a state level. You will find the thoughts and opinions of Sher idan are respected in all levels of government.” Jordah also urged the council to keep the town moving forward. The priorities for Sheridan for 1973 include the completion of the water program, the consolidation of the Sheridan Fire Department with the rural fire department, .the use of the money from rev enue sharing monies on the city park system, starting a complete comprehensive planning pro gram, raises for city employees, a study on the financing the main tenance and paving of streets on a regular basis, the continuation of the landscaping of the sewer lagoon area and the appointment of Councilman Wolfenbarger to the position of the judiciary com - mittee. Outlining his plans for the water program Jordan called it “ the life blood of Sheridan, the key to all the future.” Sheridan has run into legal difficulties concerning water rights. Jordan appointed Councilman Herbert to chair the water com mittee. Assisting him will be councilmen Stork and Firestone. By consolidating the Sheridan and the rural fire districts Jordan feels this will allow for the needed expansion of the fire department, the building of a new firehouse which would lay the groundwork for paid fire personel. Financ ing would be split between Sher idan and the rural areas. Named to this committee were Councilmen Cole as chairman and Councilmen Herbert and Potter to assist him. Stressing that revenue sharing was a gift from the government that could not be counted on from year-to-year Jordan urged the money be used as a windfall and suggested using this year’s money on the park program. This money would be used at both the river park and the large park. He also recommended con struction of a dam on the South Yamhill River and the develop ment of the river for recreational purposes. Councilman Stork was named committee chairman and will be aided by councilmen Potter and Wolfenbarger. The need for a comprehensive planning program was also ex plained by Jordan. The needs are in rezoning, annexation boundaries, new streets, traffic flows and industrial lands. He also pointed the special need for laws for mobile homes. Jordan said that Sheridan will apply for a grant this year to deal with these problems. Councilman Stork was also named Chairman of this com mittee. Serving with him will be Burton A.
